After building a reputation for having one of the best ears in hip-hop, legendary producer, Dr. Dre, has helped to develop a new, innovative line of headphones.

Along with Monster -- a leading manufacturer of professional grade audio equipment -- and Jimmy Iovine, chairman of Interscope/Geffen/A&M Records, Dre will be releasing the headphones, dubbed "Beats by Dre," this spring.

These little speakers for your ears are specially designed to relay audio the way music producers like Dre hear it when they're listening to it in the studio with high-performance loudspeakers, amplifiers and a host of other expensive equipment. The headphones utilize a new driver technology to capture a dynamic range, low bass and clarity that conventional models can't handle.

The headphones are the first product Dr. Dre has ever endorsed and he didn't just slap his name on it. The world-class producer had a heavy hand in crafting its sound.

"When I'm making a track I'm trying to capture the sound that makes me go 'now that's the sh-t!' and I want that reaction from everybody who hears it," Dre said via statement. "I spend a lot of time in the studio listening to my music through headphones...with 'Beats,' people are finally going to hear it the way they should: the way I do."

"Beats by Dr. Dre" will come with a slick carrying case and Monster's iSonitalk, a microphone/headphone adapter for iPhones. The headphones will hit the market in the spring at about $400 a pop.
