Cool World is a 1992 live-action/animated film directed by Ralph Bakshi, and starring Kim Basinger, Gabriel Byrne, and Brad Pitt. It tells the story of a cartoonist who finds himself in the animated world he created, and is seduced by one of his characters, a comic strip vamp who wants to be real. Cool World marked Bakshi's return to feature films after nine years. The film was originally pitched as an animated horror film about an underground cartoonist who fathers an illegitimate half-human/half-cartoon daughter who hates herself for what she is and tries to kill him.
During production, Bakshi's original screenplay was scrapped by producer Frank Mancuso Jr. and heavily rewritten by screenwriting duo Michael Grais and Mark Victor, best known for writing Poltergeist and Poltergeist II: The Other Side, and an uncredited Larry Gross. The film received mostly negative reviews from film critics,[1] and was not a commercial success. Bakshi himself publicly attacked the film years after its release. He did not make another animated feature film until 13 years later, when he began production on the independent film Last Days of Coney Island.

Fargo is a 1996 American film written, directed and produced by the Coen Brothers.

Set in the Upper Midwest United States (the opening and closing scenes are set in North Dakota and the rest in Minnesota), it is the tale of a car salesman (William H. Macy), who has hired two men (Steve Buscemi and Peter Stormare) to kidnap his wife for a ransom of $80,000. The crime sets off a chain of murders, which are in turn investigated by pregnant policewoman Marge Gunderson (Frances McDormand).

At the 69th Academy Awards, Fargo won two Oscars, for best original screenplay and for best actress in a leading role for Frances McDormand. The film also won the British BAFTA Award and several other international film awards, including the Award for Best Director (Joel Coen) at the Cannes Film Festival of 1996.

Serpico is a 1973 American crime film directed by Sidney Lumet. It is based on the true story of New York City policeman Frank Serpico. Serpico eventually went undercover to expose the corruption of his fellow officers, after being pushed to the brink at first by their distrust and later by the threats and intimidation they leveled against him. It stars Al Pacino, John Randolph and Tony Roberts.
