The remake surprised me with how good it was, but I still prefer the Jap one. The Japanese seem to be pretty much the only people capable of making scary modern horror films. the modern US ones are mostly just got for sexy teens with big tits and tight sweaters.

ALSO.. if you want scary but not gory, and an awesome stroyline.

    Twin Peaks (TV Show though)

Watch by yourself, lights off at like 1am. I dunno why but scenes like "Bob" crawling over the couch... make me shit.

David Lynch is a master at creepy, also check out Blue Velvet

Might not look it.. but this is a COMPLETE headfuck.

IT still gets me. prolly the scariest movie i've ever seen.
Yes The Omen Trilogy is a very scary scenario. That 80's dude Kirk Cameron made some cheap ass movies with that kind of scenario too forgot what they called but anti-christ themed.

The Exorcist series too, anything to do with Demons.

The old Italian Demons and Demons 2 is some retro scary shit too, made by Asia Argento's pops.

They need to make a movie about Planet X fucking the Earth up-causing a pole shift with fire and brimstone raining down. That would be a scary movie.

That would be cool. They should also make a movie about the Philadelphia Experiment and Montauk Project and all the Anunaki and crazy shit. Some big budget trilogy covering all of it.

Haha, probably have Bruce Willis strapped into the alien chair conjuring up a chaingun or something.

the only movie i think is scary was Audition, directed by Takashi Miike. see it, but don't read shit about it before. it takes a while into it before it seems like a horror movie.

The Untold Story is fucked up and disturbing.

David Lynch's movies are creepy, but not exactly horror movies. Eraserhead and Inland Empire are the best. Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me is probably the creepiest.

as far as movies with actual animal killing in them, Cannibal Holocaust isn't the only one. almost any italian cannibal island movie from the 70's will have animal death. Cannibal Holocaust is good, though, and disturbing.

other good horror movies, but not necessarily scary (and fuck remakes):

    The Shining
    Hour of the Wolf
    Kaidan
    Texas Chainsaw Massacre
    The Exorcist
    Freaks
    The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
    Evil Dead
    Dead Alive
    Haxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages
    Rosemary's Baby
    The Tenant
    Eyes Without a Face
    Nosferatu The Vampyre

Apocalypse Now had some fairly grim real animal killings. They didn't set them up for the movie though. They just happened across it while in the jungle and filmed it.

yeah. that scene in Apocalypse Now is really powerful. that's such a great movie.

i don't condone animal killing for movies or whatever, but the animals in Cannibal Holocaust were at least eaten after being killed, except for a tarantula.
