If you watch the show all Skyler does in the beginning is telling Walt to pay this and that. She made him feel miserable about himself. I like how he slowly changes during the show. Remember how he couldn't kill this Mexican distributor who was going to kill his entire family, but later on he could kill a man who admired him and was harmless?
The thing is one mistake can blow up so bad that the consequences of this mistake causes you to make bigger mistakes. Starts cooking Meth > at this moment has no other choice but to kill a man who is after him and his family > etc
