Well if you want to get technical,
Assassin is to ninja, as Soldier is to Samurai. But a warrior is just that, regardless of what you want to categorize them as. The stigma of a Soldier/Samurai is greater based on the fact that Assassins/Ninjas primarily base their fighting in secrecy. So there's really no reward for being a good ninja less you break your code and say " I did it! ". That's why there aren't very many famous assassins, except the ones that get caught.
