If you look at solo ventures from Kim and Thurston - (Kim's Freekitten and Thurston's self titled stuff) I would choose Thurston. Kim is really really out there. Not that its a bad thing but she can get super weird with the grunting an shit.


However , some of my favorite SY songs are Kim songs. Overall (solo or SY) I guess my admiration goes to Thurston. He kinda taught Kim in a way if you think about it.




With Lee (lol) yeah man they should let him do his thing more. I read their book called "Confusion is Next - the sonic youth story" and they tell a really funny story of how they fucked with lee while he was recording a track. I forget which track it is but you can hear him scream and its really not apart of the song but they left it cuz it sounded good.

While Lee was recording somebody carefully put a cooking pot with firecrackers in the booth and when they went off you got that scream. Lee was so pissed he almost quit the band over it.







On a random note - Why does Steve Drum thatsame beat alll the time?? You know the one

He starts off "shoot" with it.



Swear to god he play that drum beat on everything. Both of Thurston's solo joints he has Steve playing that rudiment.


I LOVE SONIC YOUTH THOUGH. They are my favorite band.

i look at it this way....Lee and Thurston are fighting each other with the guitars, Kim is instigating with the Bass...and Steve is trying to keep the peace with his drums...lmao thats y i love em

but yea Thurston is the man, and he def. takes the cake for me, alot more focused and normally abnormal...as opposed to kim..whom i still admire...as for steve's drumming, i think its def. great, and his Drumming does change up alot..it has to, to keep up with Thurston and Lee

im not a huge sonic youth fan but i like their stuff. i found sonic nurse in the library a few years back and i liked it.

Wow! they played a lot of daydream. sucks that you didnt get to hear Candle in that set list though. I love Jams run free.



about syr8 , its highly experimental but real easy on the ears. This is supposedly one of the tamest Syr series. I remember when they started this whole thing with the red and green albums. They were so off the wall though. I wanted to have them all on wax but never got around to it. I think a few are rare now on wax idk.
