Default The Worlds Top 10 Athletes !! (official)

    10-
    Alex Rodriguez, New York Yankees

    32 years old, 6-foot-3, 225 lbs.
One of baseball's most athletic players and the highest paid.

Mr. Rodriguez is the youngest baseball player to have hit 500 home runs and is considered one of Major League Baseball's greatest hitters. But he barely made the list because America's pasttime has too much standing around, said judges. "Baseball is largely hand-eye coordination and some power," said Mr. Coyle, one of the panelists. "It doesn't accomplish much endurance."

    9-
Ronaldo de Assis Moreira, FC Barcelona

    28 years old, 5-foot-11, 175 lbs.
Soccer's reigning star. Led Barcelona his first year there to an undefeated streak of 17 games but may be heading elsewhere.

Twice the World Player of the Year, in 2004 and 2005, the Brazilian striker and midfielder was judged the sport's quickest, most skilled player. He has scored 70 league goals since joining FC Barcelona in the 2003-04 season. He beat out Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo, who many fans say is even better, because of career accomplishments.

    8-

    Jeremy Wariner, 400-meter sprinter

    24 years old, 6-foot, 155 lbs.
Won his first gold medal at age 20 and is now seeking the world's record in the 400 meter.

Since winning the Olympic gold medal in 2004, Wariner continues to reign as world champion in this grueling event with a personal best of 43.45 seconds. Mr. Wariner exhibits world-class sprinter's speed with extraordinary cardiovascular strength, said panelist Steve Fleck, former head of the U.S. Olympic Committee's conditioning program.

    7-

    Liu Xiang, 110-meter hurdler

    24 years old, 6-foot-2, 163 lbs.
With speed and coordination, he averaged 19 mph while jumping 3.5-foot hurdles to set the former world record in the 110-meter hurdles.

The Chinese runner scored high in the speed category, as well as coordination. As the former world record-holder (his record was only broken last week), the current world champion and a 2004 Olympic gold medal winner, the panelists considered him one of the most successful athletes on the list.

    6-

    Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh Penguins

    20 years old, 5-foot-11, 200 lbs.
The NHL star combines stamina, power and the coordiation to shoot a puck while getting clobbered.

Panelists said hockey requires a level of endurance and strength that would put any golfer to shame. But the judges were divided when assessing Mr. Crosby, who is hockey's current superstar. Mr. Heiden gave Mr. Crosby his highest scores. Mr. Fleck gave him middling scores: Hockey players, he said, "don't necessarily run well."

    5-

    Roger Federer, tennis

    26 years old, 6-foot-1, 187 lbs.
Combines sprinter's speed with the reflexes and coordination of an acrobat.

Judges said professional tennis requires exceptional endurance and speed. Mr. Federer, once a hot soccer prospect, is known for his acrobatic shots and for winning, despite his recent loss in the French Open. He is ranked the No. 1 tennis player in the world.

    4-

    LaDainian Tomlinson, San Diego Chargers

    28 years old, 5-foot-10, 221 lbs.
The NFL running back is unmatched in his acceleration from a dead-stop.

The All-Pro running back's ability to change direction and accelerate quickly is unmatched, according to judges. He is one of football's best all-around talents: He's run more than 10,000 yards, is a solid receiver and has thrown seven touchdown passes. "He is superstrong and can sprint like crazy," said Mr. Heiden.

    3-

    Floyd Mayweather, boxer

    31 years old, 5-foot-7, 150 lbs.
With a 39-0 record, the undefeated welterweight is considered the world's best boxer, pound for pound.

Boxers may be contained to 576 square feet, but judges graded the sport as the most demanding. Boxers move constantly and punching is the upper-body equivalent of a sprint. Mr. Mayweather, undefeated since turning pro, combines speed, strength and the ability to endure pain. But the welterweight lost points for size, said panelist Kris Homsi.

    2-

    LeBron James, Cleveland Cavaliers

    23 years old, 6-foot-8, 250 lbs.
The four-time NBA All-Star has the size to play forward and the ball-handling skills to play guard.

Mr. James reached the top ranks of the National Basketball Association with his size and coordination. He scored high in every category except speed, and placed ahead of two other superstars, Tony Parker and Kobe Bryant. "The issue for me was made easier by the fact that he's so young," said Mr. Homsi

    #1

    Roman Sebrle, decathlete

    33 years old, 6'1", 194 lbs.
The Czech decathlete could jump over Shaquille O'Neal. He could throw a 16-pound ball the length of a 53-foot yacht. From a running start, he could leap over a two-lane highway. Mr. Sebrle has ideal size, according to physiologists, and expertise over a range of athletic pursuits, employing the speed of an NFL back and the vertical jump of an National Basketball Association forward. Some judges questioned whether Mr. Sebrle could withstand a tackle by an NFL lineman, but none questioned his talent in the 10 track and field events that make up the decathlon. He has won Olympic gold and silver medals for the Czech Republic and is the current world champion.

the title was world's greatest athletes. not world's greatest champions. this is based on individuals, not teams.

and shizzah, you have a dead guy and a 36 year old hockey player that is about 10 years past his prime. jagr isn't a top-10 hockey player right now, how can he be a top ten athlete. you might want to rethink your list.

    PERSONAL list...

Of course I'm not objective on the matter. If I'd put 10 athletes that are in their prime right now, it would be different, but I'm always leaned more to 'personal' than 'professional' opinion when it comes to sports.

^if thats a personal list. but brady definatly is not a top ten in the world athlete. and moss is getting out of his prime.
The earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that in glory and in triumph they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot.

People are too stupid to effectively conspire to do anything, but not too stupid to come up with conspiracy theories.

i can respect all the choices except AROD. a baseball player should not be on that list.

he is GREAT at what he does but baseball is WAY more a cerebral game than an athletic one. you go up and try to hit a baseball and if you get struck out, hit a popfly, or even a homerun bomb, you're not gonna be doing anything but walking back to the dugout or strolling around the bases.

they couldnt think of a rugby player to throw on there? i'll give them props for resisting adding tiger woods on the list.
