a song can be used for the beat pattern (or interpolation, which he will listen to on the original, then copy himslef on his keyboard), or just one single kick of a drum. Especially with RZA, who uses the Keyboards alot, hell often just use say, one blow of a flute that he liked, and then play it up and down the keyboard at different frequencies and pitches, so sometimes, you cant always hear the actual sample from the roiginal, because hes changed it.

Not just RZA, loads of producers do it.

Did RZA really sample this? I can see where the Ooh-Ah, it's similar, it's like Wu-Tang clan aint nothing to fuck with is like that slowed down, but on the wu-tang song it's also... it sounds like a kung-fu training session rather more than that... the one on the wu track is slower but it's the same tone/pitch... it might just be cut up, I'm not sure.

After listening to Mr. Sandman in a side by side comparison again, I still think it's the bassline. It sounds sped or maybe a bit pitched up, but there are traces of the same instrumentation.
