You gotta give it up to the finder. If you're able to identify this sample from only hearing the song, which most of us probably have heard 100 times on the radio, than you have a blessed ear.

Since Im interested in trivia, I always try to understand why producers decide to combine certain songs, as in this case Thelma Houston's 'Don't Leave Me This Way' and the Commodores 'Three Times A Lady'. Since I myself have been playing around with samples, making beats, I know that its not uncommon that the reason why I have chosen to combine certain samples is simply that they appear together somewhere.
Applying that assumption, I went looking for compilations where these two songs appear together, and just as I expected they both appear on this one.

Even though this doesn't add a lot of knowledge to this specific track, it perhaps tells us something about the process of making this epic beat.

Another example, also involving 4th, is the Wu-Renegade track, which combines the piano from Christian Sinding's 'Rustle of Spring' and the string from Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov 'The Sea and Sinbad's Ship', which both appear on this compilation, right after each other.

This method of finding samples should be applicable in other cases as well, especially when we're dealing with samples taken from previous billboard hits.

I think those samples are very easy to recognize. The piano sounds quite familiar for me even tho I've never heard the song before.

You're god damn right with the method of finding samples on compilations. I noticed it by myself that I sample songs which appear on compilation albums I bought.

Of course you find it easy to recognize it now that you know, but you weren't even sure before I convinced you. Finding this far from obvious sample requires nothing short of a good ear, which is evident from the 15 years it took to identify something that appears in the beginning of a famous commodores track.
The reason why you probably never heard the song before is because you're 20 and live in a Polish village.

Killah Priest "Street Opera" was found by me a few years ago. I even added it to WhoSampled. The Wisdom sample was found too.

Killah Priest - Street Opera (at 0:13)

Willie Hutch - Mother's Theme (Mama) (at 2:01)

Killah Priest - Wisdom (at 0:02)

The Carpenters - Someday (at 0:00)

Yes you're right I didn't hear it before because people don't listen to music like this in my country. I love soul, funk etc, but I just didnt know the song

Its seems that we both have a desire to create lists so if you ask me:

Rae - Glaciers of Ice (still not convinced by my own claim above)
    - Rainy Days
    - Knowledge God (not only string)

    Meth - Shaolin What?

    12 o'clock - Nasty immigrants

Sunz of Man - 5 Arch angel (guitar)

Rza - Tragedy (still not convinced that it is Roger Webb)

    Wu - the M.G.M

The list is becoming shorter which is a positive thing.

Rainy Dayz is an instrument sample that was then played by Blue Raspberry.. so the strings you hear were just a one note string sample that was then played into what became the Rainy Dayz melody. The weird string sound that occurs every now and then could be from The Exorcist movie, the part when the mother lifts the shirt off the possessed child and sees HELP ME in her stomach.

The Glaciers is wrong, RZA didnt go through the hassle of filtering out vocals back then, he either left them in or got another sample..

I talked to this DJ and he told me the Wildflower sample that I'm not sure

Ghostface Killah - Wildflower (at 0:26)

Johnny Mathis - Someone (at 0:05)

I'm not 100% sure about that, but it's correct for 99% cus just listen to GFK song at 2:51 and the Johnny Mathis' song at 0:06

Another Holy Grail sample for me is "On the Strenght" by Beggaz

"I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth" (Rev. 3:15-16)

I agree, I think if we have to struggle to make a sample work it's usually not the right one, like Occam's Razor for digging(Occam's RZA? Sorry I had to).

    I think that's it.
