Been listening to Wu for just over a year and half now and only lately mastered the skill of being able to Distinguish each general in the songs.
Just wondering am i retard?
or is this something people have difficulty with?

When I was a new fan in 1999/2000 I had some troubles, but I eventually got it by their styles, not their voices. For example, I used to confuse U-God and Method Man, because both have very deep voices, but then I realized I was enjoying it when Method Man was on a song lol.
Deck and Ghost too because of a similar voice...

Really?
I thought if anything i thought Method man was the easiest to recognises maybe its just cause the first song i heard and was a big fan of was "METHOD MAN".
I used to get Masta Killa and Inspectah Deck mixed up heaps. As well as Inspectah and street life.
I think U-god has got the best voice btw (i know many people will disagree)
I don't think there's anyone who had it right after hearing them for the first time.
De mijne is 4x duurder!
When i first started listening to wu, I could not distinguish the voices between ghost, rae and deck.
when i started listening i had problems distinguish between GZA and Masta Killa plus Deck and StreetLife.

r.i.p. Johan D, Kaddu, Ricke a.k.a. "Slick Rick" and the rest of the fallen soldiers - you'll never be forgotten!
i have been listening to the wu for about 10 years so i can definitely distinguish their voices..but at first i remember i used to mix up deck and masta killa all the time.
yea it took me awhile, too. the last ones i figured out how to recognize were raekwon, masta killa, and inspectah deck. meth and odb were always obvious right from the start, and i think rza, too.
GZA and masta killa were the only ones i had problems with.. but it definately didn't took me more then a month to distinguish them!
Shaolin shadowboxin' and the wu-tang swordstyle...If what you say is true...The shaolin and the wu-tang could be dangerous!En garde, I'll let you try my wu-tang style...
Deck/MK/GZA &
Rae/ghost got mixed up for some time.

I'd like to think I caught on pretty quickly with identifying their voices, took me about 1-2 months to do it, but there are a few other groups I don't listen to as much that I still can't distinguish well after a year+...
i used to mix up rza and deck. and when i was a new fan i only could distinguish method man
the only thing i mixed up were when rae and ghost used to talk, like on cuban linx i didnt realize that it was only rae talking at the start of knowledge god.
