    oh here...

Unrated horror film cassettes in the United Kingdom considered suitable for criminal proceedings *
"A lot of movies produced in the late 70's and early 80's were labeled 'Video Nasties'. In the U.K, prior to the 'Recording Acts' of 1984, the courts through manipulation gained the right to prosecute a film if it was likely to deprave or influence' the viewer. The 'Director of Public Prosecutions' derived a list of 'nasties' that were responsible for prosecution

    Absurd - 1981

    Director: Aristide Massaccesi
Cast: George Eastman, Luigi Montefiori, Annie Bell, Charles Borronel, Ian Danby

    Synopsis:
A man is being pursued by a priest. Attempting to climb a spiked iron fence he falls onto it and is impaled but manages to stagger to a nearby house, his intestines spilling out. He is rushed to a local hospital though there is little chance of his survival. Miraculously though, his grievous wounds begin to heal themselves at an astonishing rate.

Police investigating the accident discover that the injured man (Nikos Thanopolous) originates from Greece as does the priest who is pursuing him. This clergyman has a strange tale to tell. Nikos was a patient at an institute where biochemical research rendered him immortal by rapid regeneration of damaged tissue. The one drawback is that Nikos is insane and homicidal.

The Beast In Heat - 1977

    Director; Luigi Batzella
Cast; Macha Magall, John Braun, Kim Gatti, Sal Boris, Xiros Papa, Alfredo Rizzo

    Review (source:http://www.xploitedcinema.com/dvds/d...p?title=1134):
Possibly the sickest of all Nazi Exploitation films Luigi Batzella's THE BEAST IN HEAT is one of those "you've gotta see this" films. In a remote village in occupied Europe, the SS pursue their inhumane treatment of captured partisans in efforts to force them the betray their comrades. Dr. Kratsch (Macha Magall), a sadistic biologist, concentrates her efforts on the female prisoners with refined tortures and humiliation, leaving them to the mercy of a sex-crazed half-man, half-beast she has created with experimental injections. As the advancing Allied forces approach the village Kratsch herself becomes a victim of her own fiendish rituals.

Blood Bath - 1971 aka Twitch of the Death Nerve (1971)

    Director; Mario Bava
Cast; Macha Magall, John Braun, Kim Gatti, Sal Boris, Xiros Papa, Alfredo Rizzo

    Review (source:http://web.ukonline.co.uk/videonasty/blood_bath.htm):
This is not one of Mario Bava's best pictures and I don't really think it should be on the nasties list. It hasn't got a bad story and the gore isn't that strong, although it does have it's moments (there is a lot worse in more modern films).

The film is about a family all feuding over an inheritance which leads them to all kill each other. One guy, Simon, does most of the killing and is a bit of an odd character, eating live squid at one point in the movie.

    Blood Feast - 1963

    Review (Source:http://www.moria.co.nz/horror/bloodfeast.htm):
Although there are several arguable antecedents, this Z-budget effort lays claim to being the first splatter film. It was also launched the career of Herschell Gordon Lewis who, following this film’s success, made a career over the next ten years out of similar films made on Z-budgets and with extreme gore as their only selling points. The film has a reputation as one of the least redeemable ever made and Lewis was nominated by The Golden Turkey Awards (1980) as one of the worst directors ever.
But to the contrary Blood Feast is one of those films that is so bad it exerts its own fascination for reasons that lie somewhere between the terrible and the outrageous. Some of the gore effects that Lewis serves up are quite astounding - the image of a girl lying on a beach blanket with her brains splattered all over the sand behind her; and the truly amazing sequence where Mal Arnold reaches down one victim’s throat and rips out a raw bloody tongue that is about a foot long. Clearly it is not a film that is meant to be taken too seriously. At other times its ineptitude is really fascinating - trying to piece together the logic that the detective operates on is so bizarre as to appear almost surrealistic. The performances are all fascinatingly awful - Mal Arnold’s Ramses is absolutely spectacular to watch in the way he forcibly enunciates every single syllable of every line, even contorting his face to do so.

    Bloody Moon - 1980

    Director; Jesus Franco

    Review (source:http://www.videocrypt.com/IMPORT1.html):
Bloody Moon (1980. Euro Shock. Directed by Jess Franco. Cast: Olivia Pascal, Christopher Moosbrugger, Alexander Waechter, and Nadia Gerganol. PAL Region 2. Fullscreen. English Mono. 82 minutes. Extras: trailer, slideshow, and booklet). Jess Franco has directed every kind of film--musicals, comedies, porn, erotica, zombies, cannibals, vampires, gothic horror, science fiction, etc., so one knows he must have an all out slasher film to his credit. Bloody Moon is that slasher film. It’s a fairly typical, although still entertaining, body count movie. Girls are mysteriously being murdered and just returning home from a couple of years in the psycho ward for attacking some young girls is the mentally challenged nephew of the rich Contessa. Guess who is the leading suspect? The story might not be overly original, but there are a few imaginative death scenes and Franco keeps things moving at a fairly brisk pace. Plus, it might be derivative--but it’s not devoid of suspense. Bloody Moon’s only real drawback is its horrible disco soundtrack. Close your ears to that monotonous beat and you can certainly have fun with Bloody Moon.

    Review (source:http://www.filmjunk.com/cannibalferox.html):
This time around, a couple of guys run from New York because they owe money to some drug dealers. Meanwhile, a girl who is getting her PHD is going to the jungle to prove for her thesis that cannibalism doesn't really exist. The schoolgirl and her crew run into the drug dealers in the jungle, find out that they've gotten themselves into some serious shit with the cannibals, chaos ensues, and the gut-munching begins. Now, at this point, I think I should explain some rules of the cannibal subgenre. 1. Some guy usually gets his dick cut off, 2. At least 1 animal really dies, and 3. The violence is pretty graphic. These films are a far cry away from Friday the 13th. They're nihilistic, sadistic, cruel fucking movies. So, that said...lets move on. All the previous rules are followed to a T in this movie. A snake, turtle, and mongoose all die in horrific detail. 2 guys get their schlongs cut off, and in the rest of the violence department, there's entrail eating, brain eating, penis eating, and hanging by hooks through the breasts. So, if you want blood, you've got it.

    Cannibal Holocaust - 1979

    Director; Ruggero Deodato
Cast; Robert Kerman, Francesca Ciardi, Perry Pirkanen, Luca Barbareschi, Salvatore Basile, Ricardo Fuentes, Gabriel Yorke, Paolo Paoloni, Lionello Pio Di Savoia, Luigina Rocchi

    Review(source:http://www.popcornpictures.co.uk/cfi...ocaust.shtml):
Filmed in a pre-Blair Witch style of pseudo-documentary, this is one sick flick which pushes, even breaks the boundaries of extremism. The fact that this looks so real does much to disturb the viewer - director Ruggero Deodato even had to go on trial in Italy to prove that the film wasn't a "snuff movie." At times the events look so real, it's quite freaky. The gore does get very extreme. Forget cheesy splatter spoofs such as Bad Taste, this is the real deal. We have people severed with machetes, a guy having his penis cut off in full view of the camera, a native woman having her unborn baby forcible aborted, another native woman being raped with a stone before being smashed over the head numerous times with it and much more. But perhaps the most disturbing aspect and the most unforgivable and pointless is the depiction of cruelty to animals. This isn't faked at all as we get live muskrats being sliced open, pigs being shot for no reason and worst of all, a turtle being killed before having it's insides removed in gory, sickening detail. There is no excuse for this at all and it does little to try and appease the censors and critics of the film, only plays into their hands. Perhaps the most weird part of the film is that it's actually a very good commentary on the evil and sadism which exists inside every human being. After we witness the documentary crew rape, pillage and kill the tribes people, we are left wondering just who the real monsters are. Of course the documentary team get their just desserts in the end and all fall victim to a brutal death, arguably the worst of which being the female who is systematically gang-raped by the tribe before being smashed to pieces with sticks and stones. One of the final scenes sees the studio executives just finish watching the video. One by one they stand up, in silence, and walk out of the room, no doubt in shock. Many viewers will find themselves doing the same thing, even the most battle-hardened hardcore horror fan. After viewing, you are just speechless - you just can't really comprehend what you've just seen no matter how hard you try. In many respects Cannibal Holocaust is an awesome horror film - it's powerful and disturbing and at times, downright scary because it looks so real. You'll not see anything like this made ever again - it's a one of a kind film despite falling into the over-populated cannibal genre.

    Director; Eloy De La Iglesia
Cast; Vincent Parra, Emma Cohen, Eusebio Poncela, Vicky Lagos, Lola Herrera

    Review(source:http://web.ukonline.co.uk/videonasty/cannibal_man.htm):

The story centres around a guy who, one day, decides to go a bit mental, after the pressures in his job get to him (he works in a slaughter house). He kills a taxi driver for starters (reminds me of Man Bites Dog, "I like to start the month off with a postman" hehe) then decides to strangle his girlfriend (hey we've all been close).
He then kills his Brother and his girlfriend. Next to get it is his father with a lovely meat cleaver in the face (sounds better than it looks), then a prostitute. He then decides to try and dispose of the bodies through what looks like a meat grinder. Some gay guy turns up from across the street who happened to see all the murders and offers to help. But by this time the guy has had enough and turns himself in.

The story is about Vietnam Vets who set themselves up as a kind of vigilante group (kinda like the A-Team, ha ha). All is going well until one of them goes a bit too far and starts to bump off perfectly innocent young women. Hmmmm.
This film isn't all that gory and isn't bad in places, although it is very cheap. Camera work is naff and the editing leaves a lot to be desired.

    Director; Joseph Ellison
Cast; Dan Grimaldi, Robert Osth, Ruth Dardick, Charles Bonet, Bill Ricci, Dennis Hunt, John Hedberg, Johanna Brushay, Darcy

    Synopsis:
Don't Go In The House is a slasher flick with a difference... that difference being that the killer in this movie doesn't hack young co-eds to pieces with a carving knife , but incinerates them with a blowtorch instead.
Donny is pretty much an urban version of Norman Bates. He lives with his overly domineering mother in a large sprawling mansion on the outskirts of the city. His passion isn't for taxidermy though ; he likes nothing better than setting things alight. Donny's love of fire began when his mother punished him as a child by burning his little arms in the flames of the family oven.

    Faces Of Death - 1979

DIRECTED BY - Conan Le Cilaire
    STARRING - Michael Carr.

    Review(source:http://www.everwonder.com/david/facesofdeath/faces.html)
This is the most infamous of all Mondo Movies and with out a doubt the most vicious exploitation title ever filmed. This pseudo documentary features the aptly titled Dr. Frances B. Gross, as he studies death and how fragile live can be. The film opens with scenes of a catacomb in Mexico where we see mummified corpses, all of this is genuine and pretty much benign. We then proceed to a slaughterhouse where we witness animals prepared for our dinner table(Yum!). We then witness one of the most infamous scenes in the film, a group of restaurant patrons are seated, entertained with music and alcohol and then are given a monkey to bash with a mallet. Afterward they eat the brains and the look on the patrons face's shows they are not quite happy with their meal (Maybe it should have been chilled). The films also features animal attacks on people and in many cases these are quite laughable, one worth noting has a stupid couple feeding a bear, an adjacent vehicle records the grim results of the subsequent attack by the bear on the stupid man. For the rest of the film what we end up with is a mix of stock footage from accidents and disasters which were real and a small number of staged incidents which give the film its infamous reputation. The film is supposedly banned in over 40 countries.

    Synopsis:
SHE CREATED A MONSTER AS HER SECRET LOVER!
What started out as an overheated Berlin-set marital crisis becomes an increasingly bizarre and progressively more nauseating film that defies simple genre pigeon-holing - it's certainly horrific, as it's heroine's gradual embroilments in metaphysical notions of evil lead, via murder, adultery and corruption, to sexual congress with a hideous, slimy incarnation of the thing itself; very European, extremely impressive, undeniably gross, "Possession" is unique, if frequently repulsive, experience.

    Synopsis:
"A film that could only be made in South America, where life is CHEAP!"
SNUFF - the movie they said no producer could make, no distributor would release, and no audience could stomach. This is the one and only original legendary atrocity shot by Monarch Films in South America and New York, where human life is cheap! The mystery and controversy surrounding this vicious and violent venture remains clouded to this day. Many of the actors and actresses who dedicated their lives to making this film were never seen or heard from again. Snuff is the film that went to far - an overwhelming assault on the senses that delves into a degree of delirium deeper than any ever achieved before. SNUFF contains scenes of sadism, bondage, bloodshed and mutilation too real to be simulated, too shocking to be ignored! Beautiful actresses, Satanic slaves, bestial initiations, and gruesome gore beyond belief caused this picture to be banned. Are the killings in this film real? You be the judge!

    "Terror Beyond Belief!"
An American writer, Peter Neal (Anthony Franciosa), heads to Rome to promote his latest horror novel but while on route a female shoplifter is attacked in her home by a stranger in black leather gloves. The woman is brutally killed. As Peter is on a plane at the time it would seem the killing is unrelated but the woman's body was found with pages of his latest novel "Tenebrae" stuffed in her mouth. To connect the killing with him further Peter arrives at his hotel room and soon finds an envelope containing photo's of the murder scene and the Police begin questioning him. The turn of events are disturbing to Peter but his Agent (John Saxon) is eager to keep him in the public eye and get as much publicity as possible. It isn't long, of course, before more young women are found brutally murdered and photographs of the crime are delivered to the hotel room in plain brown envelopes. Peter Neal is determined to discover the person behind these horrific crimes. With the help of a small group of friends he begins an investigation and finds the most likely suspect right under his nose only for them to be brutally murdered too. As the story unfolds we see a series of obscure, but important, flashbacks and the web of intrigue gets ever more complex as betrayal, dark secrets and madness are brought into the open and lead to a brutal denouement.

    Synopsis:
"Step out into the forbidden..."Terror Eyes" will haunt you long after tonight."
The young women attedning a Boston night school are terrorised by a mysteriuos killer who performs a bizzare ritual of decapitation on each of his victims. All the evidence points towards one of the teachers, but nothing is what it seems in this chilling story of fear and death.

    Review(source:http://web.ukonline.co.uk/videonasty/terror_eyes.htm):

This is another slasher flick which is a little better than average. It's about a maniac in a motorcycle helmet who goes around decapitating college students. (Nice hobby.)
It's a bit of a whodunnit with the usual suspect obviously not the culprit. Anyone with an IQ over 20 can guess who is behind the killings. Not too much gore, but the bit that's in it isn't that bad. Can't see why it made the nasties list though.
