He's my 2nd favorite director of all time (which might seem kind of obvious from my avatar).

i luv visitor q, but honestly i wouldnt reccomend it to TM starters because its pretty slow and controversial, i would start with some of his "faster" more action based films like:

    fudoh
the city of lost souls (aka the hazard city)
    dead or alive
or his triad society trilogy (shinjuku killers, rainy dog, ley lines)

    ^^theyre all dope as hell

Takashi is the last living great director. A little overrated, but he's a legend already and all legends are. Not the best, just the weirdest director in a long time. IMO The Joker in "The Dark Knight" was just a gay rip-off of Kakihara from "Ichi". I mean, the fashion sense, the mouth scars, the sadistic edge. Kakihara would eat that bitchass alive. I think "Gozu" is the best movie to start you off. Best opening and best ending out of all of his movies. Then, "Audition" and then "Ichi the Killer". Those are his most popular hits here in the West. He's a weird motherfucker.

    Kakihara from Ichi the Killer

I think Kakihara needs his own prequel, with those 2 weird cops and their dead triplet. It would be more fucked up and awesome than Ichi's prequels. I just love that character too much.

Basically, most Japanese films by any director will seem "slow" compared to Western (or even other Asian films). Since that's subtle style of Japanese film making. In stillness there is usually alot going on. I can honestly tell you none of his film have a fast pace (and I've seen nearly all of them).
