Default Who was the last iconic musician/band?

Just discussing Bob Dylan in the boring thread got me asking myself who the great musician or band of my era would have been, and I couldn't think of one. Like, you had Bob Dylan/Jimi Hendrix for the 1960's, Led Zeppelin for the 1970's, Michael Jackson for the 1980's but all of their prime work preceded my birth. So, for me it would have had to have been somebody from the 1990's, but I couldn't come up with one who could truely be labeled as a great.

Would that make Michael Jackson the last true legend of music?

Anyone have any suggestions? The only one I could think of with possible iconic status would be 2Pac, but I doubt that would go down well.

And, no, do not mention Nirvana/Kurt Cobain.

I'd say Tupac....I wouldn't list Nirvana either, but you can't deny the impact they had at the time.....

Michael Jackson. I was born in '88 but I still grew up listenin to MJ and loved all the music.

MJ is definatly the most iconic musician, for good reasons.
