    Arrow The Warriors

A battle of gigantic proportions is looming in the neon underground of New York City. The army of the night numbers 100,000 strong, and tonight they’re all after the "Warriors" -- a street gang wrongly accused of killing a rival gang leader. The Warriors must make their way from one end of New York to their turf on the other side of the city. All that stands between The Warriors and their survival are 20 miles and thousands of street gang members. The army of gangs owns the streets and there’s no turning back, The Warriors must fight for their lives and learn the meaning of loyalty as danger and uncertainty emerges from the city night.

    GANGS OF NEW YORK

Being the toughest gang in New York City circa 1979 is no easy feat -- especially when you're up against the cliques made famous in the eternally-popular cult film, The Warriors. But believe it or not, being tough in the videogame adaptation of that movie is an even tougher proposition... because the various crews players may find themselves up against aren't just non-interactive images on a television set -- they're hardcore challenges that are ready to kick your butt on a moment's notice.

To give you a better idea of the types of ruffians we're talking about, we're borrowing the Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of this week to introduce you to the official gangs found in the Warriors videogames (complete with movie clips and screenshots) so that you're better prepared for the mayhem that will follow them when The Warriors is released later this month. So listen up!

    The Destroyers
Rockstar has expanded on the storyline of the film and have taken a few creative liberties. One of these liberties was to creating a rival gang that The Warriors would face early on in the game, and thus, The Destroyers were born. Representing the East Side of Coney, The Destroyers are the first gang you'll encounter and are the only squad not originally found in the film.

The Destroyers are the original Coney Island gang and led by a backstabbing drunk, Virgil. They're a heavy set and they put up some stiff competition in Coney Island turf wars. They are easily recognizable in their jean jackets emblazoned with the Destroyers logo on back. The jackets might remind some of the Warriors classic colors -- and with good reason, as key members of the Warriors used to be members of the Destroyers. Old grudges and neighboring turfs make the Destroyers a rival to the Warriors in Coney. If Cleon and the rest of the Warriors have any chance of taking their gang All-City, they will have to deal with the Destroyers first.

    The Jones Street Boys
A cocky bunch of trust fund kids who live in a world where money isn't an object and petty crime is just a thrill ride. Still a set that can hang with the rest, the Jones Street Boys have Bensonhurst locked up tight. Without any true allegiances, the Jones Street Boys will often switch loyalties at the drop of a hat. Their only real enemy seems to be the Saracens.

Since they're a spoiled group of thrill seekers, the Jones Street Boys will rampage through their set, causing vandalism, committing petty crimes, and laying a beat down on anyone -- gang member or pedestrian alike -- who has the misfortune of crossing their path.

    The Lizzies mean business.

    The Lizzies
The Lizzies are an all-girl gang who can roll with the toughest crews in New York City. Using their god-given gifts to their advantage, The Lizzies can cause even the toughest set to lower their defense, but the Lizzies aren't just known for their looks -- they have a tendency to pack some serious heat too, which makes them a dangerous gang not to be trifled with.

    The Punks
The toughest gang members to ever wear roller skates, the Punks are a serious bunch of brawlers. Mean mothers looking for a good time and a good fight, this clique won't back down from anything. They can usually be found hanging around the Union Square subway station -- they're the ones on the subway platform wearing overalls, but they aren't waiting for a train -- they're out for anyone foolish enough to get caught on their turf.

    The Furies
An enduring, silent enigma, the Baseball Furies are a group of real major leaguers who bring their A-game to every rumble. Packing bats and plenty of muscle, the Furies rep stretches through every neighborhood in NYC. Known for their painted faces and baseball uniform attire, they own Riverside Park and will offer trespassers several innings of beatings.

    The Turnbull AC's
A bunch of tough, crass anarchists looking to rock or rumble at any chance they get. These skinheads are one of the heaviest sets in the city. The Turnbull's method of travel and terror is an old school bus that's been painted green -- not that you could tell, with the Turnbull AC's packed in the bus and covering every square inch. They reign over their home turf of Gunhill, Bronx, and are a danger to any gang that attempts to make their way through Turnbull AC turf.

The Turnbull AC's know how to drive!
    The Orphans
A small time gang that keeps trying to move up by boasting about raids that never happened, the Orphans are at the bottom of the NYC gang food chain. What they lack in their abilities to battle, they make up by the sheer strength in numbers; but a crew that can't defend themselves doesn't have much a future. It's not worth even mentioning their turf -- they couldn't defend it against the locals, let alone another tough set. Look for them in their bland, army surplus green t-shirts, and in heavy numbers -- it seems the weak like company, and these guys travel in packs.

    The Hi-Hats
Soho is the home turf of the Hi-Hats. Known for there painted faces, these "evil mimes" are led by Chatterbox, a stuttering, overweight, self-proclaimed art aficionado / pseudo-intellectual who shares his soldiers' penchant for face paint. The Hi-Hats possess a similar style of intensity to that of The Baseball Furies, but to a lesser degree... they just are not as feared as The Furies.

    The Hurricanes
The Hurricanes are a family based Puerto-Rican set, made up hustlers and swindlers. These brawlers drop their colors in Spanish Harlem and love a dirty fight. You can usually find them in the Stripes and Solids, a local bar in Spanish Harlem, prepared to throw down at a moments notice.

    The Boppers
Tough enough to keep other colors off their turf, The Boppers keep Harlem smooth. A softer set that grooves with style instead of muscle, they are known for their distinctive fedoras and tendency to hang in the local nightlife. The fact that their gang name means to rumble should tell you that they are a gang that should not be treated lightly.

Violence is a way of life.
    The Savage Huns
The Savage Huns are skilled in Martial Arts and can withstand a hefty beating. They deal in extortion and loan-sharking and have some heavy numbers. Their Warlord, Ghost, is a very spiritual and disciplined martial artist who never speaks. Look for the Savage Huns in Chinatown, or better yet... stay out of their way, unless you're prepared for an all-out brawl.
