Yeah the Q-Tip record is out this tuesday the 15th from what I've heard (I had the sampler of the original before it got shelved) its pretty dope not that Renaissance type shit but more like Mos Def when he does his experimental shit i.e Umi Says or No Hay Nada Mas
album is ill, krs got nasty on this shit
a few beats and hooks that don't reach all the way but still a really good album, KRS-One is on fucking FIRE here.. i'd give it a strong 3.5 rating.

A cheap ass album with 2 brainwashed emcees and some cheap ass beats made with the worst fruity loops version ever
LOL@Poetic Wun and Claaa7 talking about listening to QTip's Kamaal The Abstract album hahahahahahahahahahaha. Fuck QTip's gay solo music. A friend of mine told me he heard Kamaal The Abstract and he said QTip sings on most of the songs hahahahahahahahahaha. When he told me that, i knew i wasn't gonna listen to it. I haven't heard KRS and Buckshot album yet but i will later. KRS hasn't made a good album in a long time. Kristyles was his last good one. Hopefully i'll like this album. Angry, i see what you mean about KRS One's lyrical skills are still tight. I never doubted that his lyrics aren't good anymore. I just don't like his beats anymore. It's a trip that he's 44 years old and he's still spitting tight lyrics. Wasn't KRS born in 1965?
It's a good album, nothing classic though.
“Robot” is amazing. I wasn’t really feeling the chorus at first, but now I sing that shit everytime I hear it. The meaning of the song says so much about the hip hop game today, and already gets props for coming out and saying it. Buckshot cracks me up using the autotune.
Mary J Blige and Talib Kweli add great vibes to their two tracks. MJB can make any hip hop song sound fly with her chorus on “The Way I Live”. I was a little dissapointed that Talib didn’t spit on “Oh Really”, but his verse-like chorus is fucking ill.
Immortal Technique absolutely murders “Runnin’ Away”… “They treat niggas and spics like tigers and lions/Cute little babies but when they grow; put em behind iron/Let them join the military, fight for the country hard/Throw in some college money, get em a green card/Get a black Pinocchio president to lead/But controlled by an old white Geppetto on Wall Street”. I’m sure he put out his best for KRS-One. And for you slow niggas, Geppetto is the old men who created Pinocchio.
KRS & Buck change up the style for K’Naan’s “Think Of All The Things”. This just proves how talented these two emcees are to pull this off. Khrysis and 9th Wonder do a great job behind the boards on “Amazin’” and “Past Present Future”. These beats really help the featured artists shine.
Tracks like “One Shot”, “Hear No Evil”, and “Murder 1″ keep the album from being one of the year’s best. It’s not that their terrible tracks, but they should be better for KRS and Buckshot’s status.
Top 5: Robot, The Way I Live, Oh Really, Runnin’ Away, Past Present Future
Grade: (4/5) A- ”This is some amazin’ shit”
…How about a KRS-One & Sean Price album now???
Great Post!!!! I mad impressed with "Survival Skills".....It's one of the best HipHop albums Ive heard in a long time. Big up's to KRSONE and BUCKSHOT on there "Survival Skills" album signing and Free show in Philly... that was off the hook! Everyone needs to go buy this album!
KRSONE is back to his raw lyrical form on "Survival Skills"! If you love KRS go cop "Survival Skills"! Buckshot did his thing also.... Im not trying to take anything away from Buckshot it's just KRS was on his A game on "Survival Skills". Production on the album is bangin. I give "Survival Skills" a 4/5. If you love HipHop go cop "Survival Skills"!
LOL@Immortal Technique called Barack Obama pinocchio hahahahahahaha. Why did he call him that?
Pretty disappointing.
I love Runnin' Away and Think of the Things, but overall I'd give it no more than 7.5/10, or 3.5/5.
The guests definitely dominate the album - Rock sounds 15 years younger, K'Naan is great and Slug's verse > the rest of the album.
well i dug the record. i don't ALWAYS need to listen to typical rap. there are other genres out there.
like aid4afrika said, it has the Mos Def BOBS feel and puts out a good vibe.
as far as this record goes the more i listen to it the more i wish this was a solo KRS joint.
Buck has some nice shit but KRS is the one that really dominates this album.
I don't get why you're hyping KRS, his flow was wayyy off at times and he just sounds mad weird at times to. "I'm the king like Luther, you're the looser like Bush"... wtf?
He do got this great power(in lack of a better word) in his voice though, so when his lyrics and flow is there, he's ferocious. Buck was easily the MVP of this album to me though.
