From the second that the world found out that Canibus and Keith Murray were dropping a collaborative effort aptly titled “The Undergods”, the buzz was instant. And from the first dose being an ep to prep the heads around the globe, blogosphere and internet with what the music is gonna sound like.
So it wasn’t hard to ignore the first leak off the ep “129” and Bis and Murray are in rare form crushing the dope Erick Sermon backed track that is hard with strong drums kicks and boom bap snares. Then once you hit the next track “Show E’m What Crazy Is” featuring Kanasas City’s own Tech N9ne dropping heat rocks with Bis & Murray as they triple team the beat and unleash a lyrical fury that has been on a resurgence in hip hop over the last few years. For the most part the album slows down a little bit with “Gotta Be Real” that is perfectly paced to slow the adreinline pumping ep that claps allot of thunder.
As you delve into the 7 track ep you feel as it was a “No Brainer”, that the world “Stop Frontin” on hip hop’s lyrical lexicons and those same named tracks all showcase the best of what Bis & Murray can do. As some fans might wanted them to be all battle and scientific the ep is slice of reflection and introspection of what lyricist can truly do.
From the on set of this ep the heat doesn’t really stop and event the last two tracks “Rise of the Machine” and “Show and Prove” featuring Crooked I it isn’t hard to ignore why even mainstream newer artist respect the generals of lyricism because of they’re past, present and even future effort they put into they’re album. Overall this album is a solid 4 out of 5, only due to the fact that two of the guest shine hardbody with and along Bis and Murrays and the other reason is they should have just teased the fan base with this ep and just dropped a full length album, oh well see ya early 2010 with more undergods.
