The goal of a normal record label is to make money. The way Latin Hip Hop Commission works is that it is owned by member artists. The artist gets a specific percentage, as much as 50%, which is more than 5 times as much as your average artist. While most labels recoup, and use the profits for other purposes, the goal of Latin Hip Hop Commission is to max out payment to the artists, and the difference- after promotion, production, and other normally recoupable costs- goes to non-profit organizations that fund my work, like the Timmy Foundation, the Trimedx Foundation, the St. Joseph Foundation, and others. The artists own and run LHHC. Because of the funding, I have influence over what it's used on. I have already assisted in building and equipping (with over $150,000 in equipment donated through me) Hospital Un Canto a la Vida in Ecuador.
Cash donations are not the majority of what we collect. Because of my background as a Biomedical Engineer, I collect old medical equipment and test equipment, certify it for patient use, deliver it to, say, Ecuador, train the techs and the users, and help them put it to use.
