By now, I think it's safe to assume that everyone who wanted to spin it has got the chance to do so a few times, and I didn't see a discussion around so I figured I'd blaze one up. Just post your opinions on individual tracks, the tape as a whole, and whether or not Wayne still has what made him hot back in the Drought 3 days.
My view: Overall I'm a big fan of the tape. I think it demonstrates a return to form for Wayne, and one that I've been waiting for now for awhile. All of the weird Rebirth leaks, combined with his overuse of autotune on features etc., that shit was getting painful for true fans of the dude. Got to the point where I was just about ready to drop everything from my library except for Drought 3, Carter 2, and the track "Mr. Carter" off Carter 3.
So, the strongest tracks? For me it's going to have to be "Wasted", "D.O.A.", "Watch My Shoes", and "Run This Town". Wasted especially got me back to that "whoa, what the hell did he just say" kind of thing from back in the day, the kind of off-beat rhymes and metaphors that really made Wayne worth listening to.
Being honest, I think the version that leaked early in the week without the additional tracks like "Sweet Dreams" was stronger. The additional tracks just make the whole thing feel unorganized and thrown together -- the leaked version seemd really tight and everything seemed to work well with everything else.
So yeah, thoughts?
