Is this a common problem among blacks and for those that don`t know A coconut is what other blacks call sell out blacks, or basically it is "a black person who acts white" so they are black on the outside and white on the inside just like a coconut..Now im not saying that all black people have to be gangsta and talk like they are from the hood, but it just seems to me that alot of blacks, are forced to act really white, to get ahead in life... this is more prevelant in the movie industry or on television...Yet you don`t see any other cultures forced to act like this to get ahead in life like indians, arabs, asians ect.... these people seem to retain a strong scense of identity and culture even in a western societies, yet the same doesn`t apply to blacks, who for some reason are forced to give up there culture and act like the white man to get where they need to be.

a great deal of this is true but at the same time 'acting white' is a stupid term.

black americans are americans. In the end of the day they act like americans just like white ppl.

white american ppl don't 'act white' cause they dont act like whites in any other country but america. but they've decided that pronouncing things in the standard american accent or wearing standard western formal attire is white. and not using slang terms is white.
