Gen Chat threads must always be solidly based in on factual evidence and supporting sources. Anything else your gonna risk going out on a limb.

I'm dutch but was raised in Texas. Mostly I would think its a "grass is greener" thing. Americans are in love with the English accent because it has a much more defined air of authority than lazy Californian dialect, or the unintelligible southern dialect. Only thing that comes close to an authoritative dialect is the NY or Chicago dialect. Where someone can tell you a whole story of bullshit but you believe it because they look and sound good.

People in the U.K. are much more cynical and harder to impress, so when they announce in their definitive accent that something is the way it is, we listen.

    ^nice ovservations

American accents are ok they just sound kinda goofy and slapstick when speaking in a crowd of dignified englishmen intellectuals. not so much the new york, but west coast and everything in between.

^AHAHa and they will call me 'Sire' and will have to ensure my pipe is packed to sufficient density and my trusty steed has a comfortable bed of hay to lie in for they night, while I continue with my scholarly pursuits in science and philosophy.

i cant say 'fear' would be a way to describe an americans outlook on british people..honestly your accent makes you sound gay as hell..i have yet to meet a broad who thinks your accents are sexy or anything complimentary..maybe your unaware but you island lovers are percieved in america as boring, soggy, unclean, less hip versions of us who say guvna alot and ask for second helpings of soup rations..when i picture england, i envision the 3 or 4 kids who moved to my area from there and were constantly harrassed and bullied to no end..this one kid who moved here actually killed himself after he was ragged on constantly for his crooked grill and lame taste in music haha so yes..we fear you..terribly
