Hip hop mogul Marion "Suge" Knight has demanded that Eminem appears at a summit to explain racial slurs that he made on an old recording.
The white rapper had recorded some inflammatory rhymes on a tape before he came famous, which were uncovered in 2003 by leading hip hop magazine, The Source. On the freestyle mix tape, the Real Slim Shady rapper can be heard referring to black women as "dumb chicks" and claiming they are only after money. Eminem quickly excused the remarks away, claiming he has been young and angry at the time, saying that he had recorded the track in 1988 following a breakup with a black girlfriend.
However, The Source claims the tape was recorded in 1994, while many of Eminem's old friends claim he never had a black girlfriend. And now, the formidable frame of Suge Knight, the founder of Deathrow Records, has entered the fray, and demanded that the rapper, real name Marshall Mathers, explains himself.
Knight told XXL magazine: "When Eminem came out, I liked him. I thought he could rap, and I thought he was funny... But when you start saying black women are n**ger bi*ches and gold diggers, then I've got a problem because I've got a mother, I've got daughters. "You cross a line when you start stereotyping a race. Eminem is making his money off black people and black culture, then turning around and degrading black women. He's a racist." Suge was recently released from hospital, after being shot in the leg at Kanye West's pre-MTV awards party, in Miami. No suspects have been arrested.
