Only thing i don't like about Illmatic is that there's only 9 songs. This album should've had at least 15-16 songs. After listening to only 9 songs, he made me want more music from him. Illmatic is a classic album because of the hardcore beats and rhymes. Nas hasn't made a tight album since Illmatic. I know a lot of ya'll will disagree with me about that but that's my opinion and everybody has their own opinion. I just think Nas should've stayed hardcore and underground because when It Was Written came out, he changed and became mainstream. I think that's what made him lose some fans. I wish The World Is Yours remix was on the album. That remix is the shit. I like at the end of the remix when he's talking and he says i wanna give a shoutout to the whole fucking Queens. My man Tipster on the boards, keeping it real lord. The Queensbridge nation getting it on. Faking no fucking jacks. Fuck around and get your wig pushed back LOL. The video was hard too. LOL@white dude getting robbed in the alley by 2 black girls. Didn't QTip produce the remix?

I guarantee it would not be as good with more songs.

Part of Illmatic's beauty is its length.

You don't know that the album wouldn't have been good if it had more songs.

i liked the album alot...a classic in my opnion...most people say the production is "lack luster" or not very good, but that's because "nas" outhshines the beats (and it would be no better with any others) i LOVE this album!

True but whoever complains about the beats are fuckin stupid they suit Nas perfectly. Easily one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time, if not the greatest.

"Da Mysteries of Chessboxin', first of all the word "mystery" means "unknown", you know, and the game of chess is like life, so in reality there is no mysteries to chess, it's just to those who don't understand life"- The GZA

There's only one thing y'all missed... Whole album is as one big song, every track matches the one before and the one after. Nas was talking a big tale - listen to the lyrics and it sounds whole time he's talking to the listener what did he see and feel.

Top 1 album of hip-hop ever from "Street's disciple, my mind is triflin'" till "It ain't hard to tell".

    BTW who produced Genesis?
"The Devil is not the Prince of Matter; the Devil is the arrogance of the spirit, faith without smile, truth that is never seized by doubt. The Devil is grim because he knows where he is going, and, in moving, he always returns whence he came."
