How is Black on Both Sides overrated...that album is perfect to me...I know everyone has a right to their own opinion but I feel it is the last hands down classic to come out, every track is a 10.

As for blackstar...I give it a very respectable 9...Its a great fucking album no doubt...Its missing something though and I cant put my finger on it...if more of the tracks were like "respiration" and "thieves in the night" itd be perfect......Mos and Kweli in their prime could have done better, but yeah, great fucking album.

I gave it a 9/10. There is no denying the amount of raw energy that these two cats create when they're together. Their lyrical content/insight and level of social consciousness/awareness is amazing. It don't get no hotter. This is definitely classic shit right here!!

Respiration and REefinition were supreme tracks. I didn't like the rest of the album as much though. THe beats just weren't my style.

when i think about it, i can't find any flaws with mos def or talib kweli. both are at their top on this album, some of the beats were not the best so i'd give it a 9.

It gets 8/10 for me. Songs are hard enough for me. I loved Reflection Eternal but this doesn't do it for me. It Teck or no one when it comes to Def/Kweli. Great CD though.

Mos Def's verse on "Thieves of The Night" is my favorite verse of all-time any genre of music, Period! And too the dudes that thing Mos Def is garbage, ya really need to fall back on that greenery you chiefin'. Black Dante is one of the illest lyrically.

I won't say overated but I definitly agree with you as far as the beat selelction.

After a re-listining here are my fav tracks:

    Definition
why: at the time this came out people were re-working old Hip Hop songs and spittin new verses over them. The way they did this joint was one of the best that was ever done. "One, Two, Three,....It's kinda dangerous to be an emcee....They shot Tupac And Biggie...To much violence in Hip Hop Wyooooooooooooooooooooo......" Sick ass hook.

I do not know why some people do not like Mos Def. I think he is good for Hip Hop, along with Black Thought, Talib, Common, Pharohe Monche, and De La Soul,

    Re-Definition
why: the way they went straight into this was just great. Mos spits straight flames in this joint, Kweli also. I have to play both of these back to back.

    Childrens Story
why: Mos Def's version of this classic song is flawless. No more needed to say.

    Respiration
why: Again Mos carries this song for me, personnally I thought this should have had Black Thought on it also, shit maybe even Pharohe also(nobody does massive posse cuts anymore). The hook is one of the best out there. Really it is. Just concentrate on what they are sayin in the hook and draw that mental picture.

    Twice Inna Lifetime
why: Lol the posse cut that I said that people are not doin anymore.

"Hail Mary matter fact Hail Jane" hahaha. she is one of the sickest.
"My suspension attarcts attention" another heater.

    Jane Doe....Goggle her...seriously

    Wordsworth spit flames..

Kweli also..."Wack emcees get they mics snatched like Lee patches"....classic

    Punchline spit heat.....

Mos Def well....if you cannot tell he is one of my favorite emcees....

the way he strings along his words and constucts his bars is beautiful.

the sing songy stuff is just a added attraction..

I will give this a 8/10 and that is only cause of the beat selection.

Great album....this is where Talib Kweli and Mos Def peaked musically though....at least in my opinion....I bought Black On Both Sides and wasnt feelin it really.....the production was somewhat lackluster....even the Premo beat was average
