PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - It was a case that became known as the “Facebook murder case” — an alleged plot to kill a West Philadelphia man that was thwarted at the time with the arrest of two people.

But now, Corey White is dead, just hours after the two people in the original case were ordered to stand trial for attempting to arrange the original hit via Facebook.

Authorities say that London Eley allegedly wanted to kill White, her former boyfriend, because he had broken up with her.

According to investigators, she went on Facebook looking for a hitman and Timothy Bynum answered the call.

They were arrested back in June and remain in custody. They were held for trial yesterday, during a preliminary hearing.

Then, last night at approximately 7:45PM, Corey White, 22, of the 5100 block of Webster Street, was shot and killed on the 5100 block of Hadfield Street.

There have been no arrests in this murder, but police of course are investigating a link to the earlier plot.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Police near Philadelphia say a man who was shot earlier this week was likely killed for selling bad drugs, not because his girlfriend sought out a hitman on Facebook.

Police in Upper Darby on Thursday charged a man with carjacking the vehicle involved in Monday night's shooting of Corey White.

White's ex-girlfriend is being held on charges she used Facebook to find someone to kill him. A judge upheld felony charges against London Eley (EEL'-ee) and 18-year-old Timothy Bynum hours before White was killed.

Both had been in jail for weeks when someone stepped out of a car and shot White.

Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood says 24-year-old Alexander Solomon is now charged with carjacking that vehicle. Chitwood says it appears White was killed for selling bad marijuana.

--Muslims, police scuffle at amusement park; 15 arrests made

Rye Playland was shut down Tuesday after cops scuffled with Muslims upset that women wearing head scarves were barred from the rides, witnesses said.

Fifteen people, including three women, were charged with disorderly conduct and assault in the chaos, authorities said.

The Westchester County park was packed with Muslims celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr - the holiday marking the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

One woman, Entisai Ali, began arguing with cops over the amusement park's head scarf, or hijab, rule, said Dena Meawad, 18, of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.

The ban, which is not Muslim specific, was imposed about 3 years ago mostly to prevent hats from falling onto the tracks of roller coasters and other rides, park officials said.

"The cops started getting loud with her and she started getting loud, too. They pushed her on the ground and arrested her," Meawad said.

Her cousin, Kareem Meawad, 17, went to try to protect the woman and was beaten by cops and also arrested, she added. Her brother, Issam Meawad, 20, was pushed to the ground and taken into custody when he tried to help his cousin, she said.

"She just wanted to get on a ride. That was it," Dena Meawad said of the initial confrontation. "It's clear, this all happened because we're Muslim."

John Hodges, chief inspector of Westchester County Public Safety, insisted that police did not use excessive force.

He said up to 100 cops from surrounding departments converged on the park.

Two park rangers were injured in the melee, prompting felony assault charges against two people arrested, officials said.

The ugly incident happened just after 1 p.m. The event was organized by the Muslim American Society of New York, and attracted 3,000 Muslims from Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Westchester County.

Ali's sister, Ayman Alrabah, 24, of Brooklyn said her husband, brother and father were all tackled by cops and put into handcuffs when they tried to help her sister.

Alrabah said she was unaware of the head-scarf rule until she and her sister tried to get on the park's Dragon Coasters.

"We requested a refund and all of a sudden an argument became a riot," Alrabah said. "Cops came. They were hitting my brother, my dad. My husband was on the floor and they were handcuffing him.

She said her 4-year-old son was "traumatized" by seeing his father arrested.

"They treated us like animals, like we were nothing," Alrabah said. "They came with their dogs and sticks. We came to have fun."

The park was closed for about two hours because of the fracas. It reopened at about 6 p.m.

Peter Tartaglia, deputy commissioner of Westchester County Parks, said the Muslim American Society of New York was warned in advance of the rule barring head scarves on rides for safety reasons.

"Part of our rules and regulations, which we painstakingly told them over and over again, is that certain rides you cannot wear any sort of headgear," Tartaglia said. "It's a safety issue for us on rides, it could become a projectile."

Many Muslims were given refunds as they left the park disappointed.

"In this heightened state of Islamaphobia, a woman wearing a hajib is an easy target these days," said Zead Ramadan, president of the Council on American-Islamic Relations - New York. "Unfortunately, this turned ugly due to a lot of miscommunication."

my religions says i should not endanger my life with out purpose or for the amusement,..even thought it vague and left to individual interpretation,.. i do not ride roller coasters if the private business says you cannot ride the coaster with a hat on then do not go there. If its a state funded fair then they can not stop you.

They had wanted to give him jail time for consensual sex? I bet these sluts get off on telling the police. They probably plan it all out ahead of time before the sex, like it's some sort of game. That way they can brag to their friends about how they bagged the dude, but then act like a victim around their family and the public.

NORRISTOWN – A former Upper Providence man faces five years of court supervision after he admitted to having an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old girl while he worked as a U.S. Army recruiter at Norristown Area High School.

Michael Christopher Holt, 26, formerly of Providence Forge Road, was sentenced in Montgomery County Court on Thursday to five years’ probation and 100 hours of community service after he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of corruption of a minor of a sexual nature in connection with incidents that occurred between June and December 2010.

Judge Garrett D. Page ordered Holt to have no contact with the girl as a condition of the sentence. Holt, whose most current address was along Deer Run Drive in East Norriton, also was fined $5,000.

Defense lawyer John I. McMahon Jr. argued for the probationary sentence on behalf of Holt, asking the judge to consider Holt’s exemplary Army career.

“He did a tour of duty in Baghdad, Iraq, for one year where he was a driver of a convoy truck that was involved in numerous convoy operations,” McMahon said. “He’s been in the Army for eight years. In his words, he loves the Army and it’s all he’s ever wanted to do.”

McMahon explained that had Holt received a jail sentence, the likelihood is he would have been dishonorably discharged from the Army.

“I think that his career may have been saved today,” McMahon said on Thursday. “He’s very embarrassed. He’s very remorseful and is very grateful to have the opportunity to learn from this horrible mistake and hopefully, he will be able to continue to serve his country.”

Assistant District Attorney Jeremy Abidiwan-Lupo argued for jail time against Holt.

“Because of his status as an authority figure in the high school and the fact he took advantage of someone he was actually recruiting, we recommended jail time,” Abidiwan-Lupo explained. “He preyed on a vulnerable student in a high school and violated the trust between student and advisor as well as the regulations that recruiters are required to abide by.”

“But I respect the judge’s decision,” Abidiwan-Lupo added.

In June 2010, Holt was a Sergeant E-5 in the U.S. Army and was assigned as a recruiter at Norristown Area High School, according to a criminal complaint filed by West Norriton Detective Mark Wassmer.

“His role was to engage students in conversation and educate them about the U.S. Army,” Wassmer wrote in the arrest affidavit.

On June 11, Holt began an inappropriate relationship with a 17 year old girl enrolled at the school, Wassmer alleged. That relationship included using his personal cell phone to send text messages to the girl, according to the criminal complaint.

“He told her she was beautiful and the messages were sexual in nature,” Wassmer alleged in the arrest affidavit.

In July, Holt took the girl shopping and to dinner in New Jersey and they discussed future sexual relations, according to court papers. On July 25, Holt drove the girl to his then Upper Providence home and the two engaged in consensual sexual activity, according to the arrest affidavit.

The inappropriate sexual relationship continued until about December 2010 at locations in Upper Providence and West Norriton townships, according to the criminal complaint.

By pleading guilty to the charge, Holt admitted that he engaged in conduct that tended to corrupt the morals of someone under 18.

--Tiger in "love triangle" kills mate at Texas zoo

EL PASO, Texas (Reuters) - A female tiger has killed her mate at a West Texas zoo, authorities said on Friday, in a rare attack that came after months of simmering jealousy in a feline love triangle.

Three-year-old Malayan tiger Seri killed 6-year-old Wzui at about 4 p.m. on Thursday in an enclosure at El Paso Zoo, zoo spokeswoman Karla Martinez said on Friday,

As soon as the incident was reported, zookeepers closed the tiger exhibit and veterinary staff were called. They examined Wzui, and found he was dead.

"Tragic incidents such as this are not unheard of but we don't consider this common," zoo Director Steve Marshall said. Marshall described the deceased tiger as very down to earth and loving and said it would "be greatly missed."

Malayan tigers are a critically endangered species, with just 500 or so of the animals remaining in the wilds of Thailand and Malaysia, according to the World Wide Fund For Nature.

Both Seri and Wzui were on loan from other zoos as part of the American Zoo Association's Species Survival Plan to aid in their conservation through captive breeding.

Marshall said keepers had not observed any signs of aggression leading up to the attack, and that the two cats had been seen playing affectionately at the exhibit earlier in the day.

However, in June, zoo authorities reported what they called a "tiger love triangle" between Seri, Wzui and a 15-year-old female called Meli, who was transferred to El Paso from a zoo in Fresno, California, in 2001.

"The male tiger Wzui likes both females, but the two females don't like each other," the zoo said in a press release dated June 14. "The girls are jealous of each other," collections Supervisor Griselda Martinez said.

Staff expect that another tiger will be transferred to the El Paso Zoo to replace Wzui for breeding purposes.

-French boy finds 30-year-old human fingers in jar

PARIS (Reuters) - A French schoolboy has dug up a glass jar containing severed human fingers preserved in alcohol which police believe may belong to a local carpenter who lost four digits in an accident 30 years ago.

The boy, aged seven, made the gruesome discovery on Monday when he was playing behind the gymnasium of his school in Chilly-Mazarin, just south of Paris, and noticed a jar poking out of the earth, a police spokeswoman said.

He dug out the liquid-filled jar and saw the partially decomposed fingers inside.

"With time the jar must have risen to the surface and the fingers were found in well-preserved condition," the police spokeswoman said.

The boy's father called local police, who set out to track down the origin of the severed digits.

Following local media reports on the story, police received a telephone a call from a person whose grandfather, a woodworker, used to live near the gymnasium and lost four of his

fingers 30 years ago in a work accident.

At the time, his fingers could not be surgically reattached so the carpenter put them in a jar full of alcohol and buried them near his home, the police spokeswoman said.

The carpenter, who is still alive, has since moved away, and police were trying to contact him on Wednesday.

Hard to deny the 'stereotype' of hunters being stupid.

-2 hospitalized after fight over dead deer in Pa.

BUSHKILL, Pa. (AP) — Two men have been hospitalized after a fight over a deer carcass in northeastern Pennsylvania.

State police say the altercation happened in Lehman Township on Saturday. That's when 33-year-old Bethlehem resident Jason Frey says he shot a deer and tracked it to a property owned by 48-year-old Anthony Contino Sr.

The Times-Tribune of Scranton reports (http://bit.ly/n314ut ) authorities say Frey approached Contino, who told him the deer was his and that an associate had shot it earlier that day. Contino then told Frey to leave the property.

A fight ensued involving the two men and others. Frey and another man, 57-year-old Arthur Frey, had to be taken to hospitals. They were reported in stable condition.
