She called herself Hispanic, then you come back and ask her why do people of Latin America call themselves Spanish. I never met a Hispanic person that refers to themselves as Spanish if they are not directly linked to Spain. It's always uninformed non-Hispanics that use "Spanish" when describing people of Latin America.

Anybody that looks at me and doesn't see my "Spain" heritage is obviously blind. I got a family tree traced all the way back to the canary islands, where the Mendoza family was noble, than we migrated to Cuba and became farmers.

If that's the case I don't think that everyone was referring to you. It's great that you can trace your blood back like that. I need to dig deep to find people that can even know where to begin. If you're Hispanic and that's that you Rep, do it to death.

in this day and age, it appears a very large portion of us latinos are of mixed heritage. Also, it must be noted that "white" refers to Spanish (spaniard) ancestry, which most likely has Moorish influence.

Belize is 48.7 % Mestizo (AmerIndian & White)

Teckinikel - You sound like a Spaniard whose family moved to South America, that means you would have alot more Spanish in you than South Americans.

Spaniards don't look like south americans. Even the people in my family who are dark resemble Arabs, not latinos. And besides that we are often not really dark.

As for this bullshit about "latinos" having spanish blood - Phillipinos are probably more Spanish and we don't change their names.

My family look nothing like south americans, act nothing like them, are culturally nothing like them. They share a language because of some nasty history - that's it.

As for the Muslim thing....I am pretty sure that my family is probably Morrocan in origin. I don't know about a muslim influence in south america though.

I heard that the dark people down south aren't liked by the rich people up north or something....

Also by the time of the expiditions to South America Islam was banned. They were conquering souls for the Roman Catholic God, So I doubt Spanish Muslims were very open about their practices.
