I dunno, i picked up this album and ive listened to it a few times, but i dont think its as great as everyones making out to be. The beats are a little bland at times, there missing some hard drums, Roc doesnt seem to use them in many tracks. Shame too, coz Roc is dope on the mic. Nice wordplay, lyrics, flow etc, he can sound quite low on tracks but it suits his style.

I probably need to give it another few listens.

"Thugs Prayer" is fuckin brilliant though, haunting beat and amazing lyrics by Roc, my favourite track of the album.

i finally got around to picking this up, sitting home banging this fucker at the moment and it's been a while since i bumped it last but it might even be better than i remembered it. lyrically Roc Marciano doesn't go too far outside of his comfort zone but he doesn't need to, this is a straight up street, hardcore NY rap album like we haven't heard in a long while. Roc got a unique voice that made him stand out in The UN and his flow is smooth with a raw edge to it and with a lot of fly slang and mafia references he reminds me a little of Rae and Ghost with their mid-'90s style (and i mean that in a positive way).

"Marcberg" still stands as one of the absolute best releases of the year with tracks like "Snow", "Hide My Tears", "Thug's Prayer", "Jungle Fever", "Panic", "Shoutro", etc, etc.

lol this album doesnt even have a wiki page.

    Best tracks

    Its a Crime
    Ridin Around
    Panic
    Thugs Prayer
    Pop
    Don Shit
    Marcberg
    Hide My Tears
    Shoutro

thats 9 heaterz out of 14 tracks, but imo, it shouldve ONLY had these tracks, those 5 others are duds and boring (the album straddle boring on a thin line and these tracks didnt make it along), so I wouldnt give it any higher than a 3.75/5.

Not really, this is nothing like old Mobb Deep beats. Hav's old beats were based almost entirely on breaks and beats volumes and impossibly obscure vinyl piano loops and strings. The production style here is a lot different, the only track on this album that reminds my of 90's Mobb is "Ridin Around". Mobbs were way more striped down and empty.

"Da Mysteries of Chessboxin', first of all the word "mystery" means "unknown", you know, and the game of chess is like life, so in reality there is no mysteries to chess, it's just to those who don't understand life"- The GZA

Listened a few times through in my car. I gave it a 4. Great album but not permanent forever status yet.
