i voted for eminem...but where the fuck is masta ace? and edo g and nas should be on there too....and wtf is lil wayne doing on this list?
but for me personally, kool savas and the whole optik army (r.i.p.) owned the last decade, of course only in germany. they had the best beats & best rhymes ever.
as far as lyrics that make me go "GOT_DAAAAAMMMNNN" every time i go back and listen to 'em, i gotta roll with DOOM. that muthafucka can RHYME. total intelligence and intricacy when he puts pen to pad. glad hes in the lead.
ghostface and sean price are two whos pen game is even better than it was in the 90s, in my opinion. and they have always been dope.
r.a. could be a contender. insane skills and a great rap voice. but he just didnt release enough material. you still dont want rugged man on your track, he'll murder ya.
az is one of the most overlooked, highly skilled mcs in the game. intricate and he can change up his flow. still as good if not better than he was in the 90s.
and royce 5-9 has been killin shit the past 4-5 years. he had to work his way back after being blackballed by dr dre, but hes done a damn good job. his skills are some of the best, and yet another mc who can change his flow up effortlessly. i still think we havent heard the best from nickle nine.
jigga man and slim shady are undeniably the two most successful and have made the biggest impact on the mainstream in the last 10 years. both are easily two of the greatest and have both put artists out who changed the game as well (50 & kanye).
great talent pool.
immortal technique is dope as fuck, hes just not that diverse.
canibus is an extreme talent as well, but like technique, hes not diverse. bis hardly ever changes his style up. great writer, but is he better now than he was in the late 90s?
and while luda made his name in the last 10 years, i just never really put him up in the elite lyricist of the last decade. hes dope, dont get me wrong, just not one of the current best in my opinion. and yes, i like redman better. lol
and i just dont think nas has been as good the last 10 years as he was in the 90s. he deserves a place, but i dont think he deserves the number one spot.
three i woulda like to have seen: mos def - black thought - el-p
great thread mech!
the fuck are you talking about?? cus he didnt drop an album as good as illmatic he doesnt belong in here? i got news for you, few people drop an album like that even once in their career.
he dropped a classic this past decade and several solid albums. he confirmed his spot as one of the best to ever do it.
jadakiss, raekwon, clipse, talib kweli and mos def are also missing....and who the fuck is one be lo and p.o.s.? i never heard of them
Voted for Eminem, Ghost & Sean, but not sure if I really meant it.. Em really only had a good run the first few years, but at least he had a GREAT run.. Sean Price has been consistent as fuck, but way too one-dimensional and Ghost have made everything from classics to complete garbage, but his flow is amazing and he's stayed on top throughout all ten years.
However voted in the first thread and didn't manage to get Pharoahe Monch, Brother Ali & Black Thought in there should get smacked. I wish Tonedeff & Deacon The Villain would've been in there too, easily two of the absolute most slept on artists of the decade so I've come to accept the fact that they'll never get mentioned in these types of threads.
If this is all about lyrics though:
Tonedeff
Pharoahe Monch
and then I dunno about the last one.. Maybe One Be Lo. Maybe not.
Co-sign on most of the first part, as for the second part, educate yourself, both are dope as fuck
