Default Uncontrolled Substance, The Pillage and Rza's decisions

If INS had spit his lyrics over the beats from The Pillage the album would have been just about an outright classic. The pillage is a decent album but mainly due to the quality of the beats. while uncontrolled substance suffers from poor beats. Rza is executive producer on both, why did he not give one of the hottest mc's in his crew good beats. I read a review of the Pillage once where they described Cappadonna as coming off as a retarded Ghostface killah. It just seems a dumb move to me.

While touching on this most of the Wu release after Forever up to 2000 are very good albums many ageing well. At the time of there release many were seen as a failure. Now in 2009 these albums were actually quality releases. Off the top of my head albums like Heavy mental, The pillage, GAR, Silent weapons for quiet wars, beneath the surface , In stereo and Immobilarity fit in this category. I love these albums now more than ever. When released they got slated. I aint saying they are all classics, as I said the beats make The Pillage for example.

you have a very good point. The Rza has always been known to waste great beats and tracks on non general projects. For example, why couldn't they use America and diesel on a wu tang album instead of soundtrack and compilation. Or like Tragedy that would of been great on forever. its just poor decisions on rza's part i guess.

i like the pillage the way it is.

    cappadonna came thru on it.

Deck shouldnt have rapped on the wack beats if he wasnt feeling them.

    its not rocket science.

Well INS first album that was said to drop around 1994 probably had that grimey Wu feel that The Pillage had. But that album was destroyed in a flood... After Forever INS probably felt to go in a another direction than that grimey shit, so he picked some smooth Soul beats. It worked out pretty well if you ask me, Uncontrolled Substance was a really good album (would give it 9/10).

If you want to hear some INS over some other beat get the mixtapes "Rebel with a Cause" 1 & 2.

Cappadonna did his thing, INS on songs like black boy or even 97 mentality would have been totally different, it is what is it, Cappa was on point with the pillage, as far as uncontrolled, i still think its a solid album, and had some exceptional beats. its u -god that you should be talking about with his first album.

The reason US wasn't "outright classic" is because INspectah Deck can't hold a whole album by himself. Every album after listening to the first 5 tracks you just get tired of hearing deck.

The Pillage was Cappas best work IMO, it wasn't just the beats that made that album good. The tracks Rza gave deck on U.S. were just as good or better than what he gave Capp on the pillage.

Is this cat seriously bashing the Pillage?? That album is top notch no doubt about it. Those beats were meant for Cappa. I am glad it went out like that, Deck could have gatthered joints from RZA. Thats all his fault imo. Also I figured he wanted to produce his own joints.

people are forgetting most of Uncontrolled Substance was self produced, which is probably what Deck wanted at the time

He only produced 5 outta 17 tracks

To me its like this the beats were awesome on The Pillage, Cap was ok but didn't do them justice and every guest outshined him imo, while on Uncontrollled Substance Deck's was on fire but lackluster beats brought the album down

which was more than any other producer, plus Nightshift and Settlement which got cut

Deck just doesn't have that good an ear for beats. Even his productions for other artists were always better than what he produced for himself.
