I just watched Creep video and I noticed they sampled Slick Rick's Hey Young World.
didn't listen to a lot of rnb this year, but LP1 was probably aoty for me, and i shamelessly enjoyed tinashe's album. this was the rnb track of the year though:

^ Right. Took me a minute to hear this but I had to replay Brown Sugar and Voodoo several times before I got to the Black Messiah LP. God damn, he hasn't missed a step at all.
yeah that d'angelo new album is nice, its not wall too wall out and out blatant bangers like his first album, its kinda like a continuation without missing a beat, of the voodoo album, slow sizzling burners, bubbling till it reaches fever point, you see what i'm saying, ha ha
these are the tunes i'm checking for the most from the album

Lets bring this thread back, some beautiful shit happening in this genre right now.
I like the Sza track. Cool vibe.
I was always worried that the autotune would continue to ruin the genre.
But I always felt like guys like Ro James was keeping it alive.

Lovin' that Van Jess track you just posted too.
Another favorite R&B track I like from about 4 years ago.
One of my children was conceived listening to R&B jams like this.

^ That Ro James track is great. There's a few dudes who do really well with the autotune, definitely Ty Dolla Sign, and then the rap/r&b hybrid dudes like Bryson Tiller and Tory Lanez:
