Default Music genres that need to make a comeback

    Italo disco

    ^^the original version (1984)

Laura Branigan did the song justice though. Her vid nailed it even better.

How about some new jack swing era R&B, or even any quality R&B music. People talk about the decline of hip hop, but there are some underground or OG's out there trying to keep it going. R&B is almost non existent today.

I think this statement is complete nonsense. R&B is still popular (though not as popular as Hip Hop) and there were a number of fantastic records released over the last few years.

I mean yeah music is subjective, and you might not like modern R&B, but to say nobody is keeping the spirit of 90s R&B alive or that it's declined somehow is just false. The 00s were a decline for R&B creatively but the last decade has been pretty excellent.

Well I post a lot of cool stuff in the R&B thread, but I have to say there's not a lot of R&B groups, (or rap groups for that matter) these days. Most artists want more control, or money so they become solo artists, so it's mostly solo acts who collab.

    A few cool groups:

    Majid Jordan
    dvsn
    Sault
    phony ppl
    Hiatus Kaiyote
    The Internet
    Chloe X Halle
    St. Beauty

Phony ppl I enjoyed. Honestly the genre might have just passed me by. A lot of your recommendations just sound like pop music to me. I will make sure I check out the R&B thread to see if kind find some new tracks I like. I did hear this track posted below the other day and I enjoyed.

Yeah, New Edition definitely were a Pop group that progressed to more R&B new jack sound. I just miss the sound of past R&B. I don't hear it as much in today's music. Not saying current acts are not talented. Just not my preference. Not trying to be that guy who says"back in my day".

I know what you mean. I think R&B is still alive, but the new guys lean on 90s R&B a lot.

Music historians say it's a 20 year cycle; everything gets rebooted, so the new guys fetishize 90s R&B although the tech moves on.

I see the 20 year cycle making sense

I'd like to see ska/2-tone make a comeback

Cheers, I just had a look on YT after reading your post. I genuinely had no idea. None of this makes it to (alternatvie) radio or music sites down here. Thanks!!

Has there been any rock/hard rock/metal that have recently debuted that are worth listening to. Not including the generic drivel that is played regularly, that sounds too polished.

I'm guessing 70s rock is equivalent to 90 rap. As in, this is when it peaked and then there was a gradual decline.
