Here is a very interesting USAF project named PROJECT TWINKLE;This project was set up in the 1950s by the USAF and consisted of specialists in atmospheric physics to determine the origin's of green fire balls that were being seen over and near TOP SECRET nuclear weapon research in the southwestern United States;Cover up or merely mistaken identity of natural/man made objects;

"In December, 1948 a new and strange phenomenon began to be observed repeatedly in the southwestern United States in areas where Top Secret nuclear weapon research was being carried out.
