I just picked this up, and was very impressed by it. Production is top noch as usual, as Madlib wallows in his typical minimilistic soundscapes, which are excellently produced to give off a dark, smokey enviornemt. Some of the instrumentals, credited as artisr 'The Beat Konducta' are fantastic, weird synths, hard drums, vinyl crackles, strange samples and deep, funky bass.
As far as emcee's well, this really is Madlibs show. Prince Po and Murs do a nice job, and i know Guilty Simpson isnt the greatest MC of all time, but he really does sound dope over Madlib's beats. The only downfall of this album i can see so far is some of the rapping, and theres two or three sung tracks, if thats your thing, i dont mind it personally, but would rather hear an instrumental.
Overally, ive only heard this a few times, so my review is rather general than focusing on individual tracks. I havent listened enough to comment properly, but so far, id give it:
8/10
Dope tracks - "The Ox" "The Thang-Thang" "Retrace" and others i cant remember
I heard this is the last in the beat generation series too. RIP.
