    Default My government is Fascist.

My state government has implemented a number of clearly fascist policies since it came to power last year.

And just today, a minister compared the newly proposed 'Stop & Search' policy (whereby you can be frisked and searched without suspicion, for no reason) to Hitler's apparently successful attempts to control his people...

The guy was being dead serious, praising Hitler's "control" of his people.

The search policy is on top of:

    - Mandatory sentencing (that sentencing being jail time) introduced (for anyone who assaults a Police Officer, Transit Officer, Ambulance worker, Security Guard (!!!) and a couple of other officers).

    - Re-criminalisation of Marijuana, despite a decrease in the number of people using Cannabis and a decrease in the amount of Cannabis used, since the previous government decriminalised it 5 years ago.

This has all happened in less than 12 months of government.

I guess this would be comparable to the US, in some respects, but additionally as an Australian my civil liberties are impinged upon severely in numerous other ways which American's don't experience (most of which i don't have a problem with).

My point being, sure, Obama has been ineffectual, and hasn't yet done what he said he will do, but at least you guys don't have an openly Fascist government.

I know some of you think you're government is Fascist, but you really have no actually proof of this.

I am living under a Fascist regime.

So cut Obama some slack maybe.

I just don't know how this can go on without no major protest or outcry, as far as i know you hardly ever hear about the Australians on the news, only bushfires and shit.

There might be some very sinister social experiment happening in Australia right now.

please start riots so the idea to do it elsewhere doesn't spread. Or write letters letting them know your HDI (australia's) was ranked 3 when they came out this year and you don't wanna see that score plummett.

btw we've been dealing with all that for some time now. Does that make the US facist?

Western Australian's are all for it.

We have the most right wing population in the country easily.

Mandatory sentencing was introduced on the back of a cop being paralysed in a street fight.

The government barely had to support it, there was so much public support for extremely harsh legislation for any violence towards Police Officers. The state opposition presented no opposition to it at all, apart from requesting that it be expanded.

Again, with the Stop & Search policy, the public here is all for it.

They can't get enough of the idea of some kid who's going to a music festival being searched and found to have 2 pills on him, which qualifies as "Possession with intent to supply" now.

We had a fucking referendum (American's might not know what that is, but basically it's an exceptional vote to determine policy) on Daylight Saving...

Here everyone has to vote, so the whole voting public debated madly about putting clocks forward 1 hour, for half the year.

Since everyone here has to vote, every single voter was forced to vote on the matter.

But for things like mandatory sentencing, drug legislation which clearly target small time users and cops being able to search anyone they want without suspicion, the public is happy to let the government do as they please.

But yes, to be fair, we do kind of have better access to Kiwi juice.

It's not a bad compromise when you look at it that way.

My president tried to get his son, who's failing college, the presidency of one of the most important business district in Europe. They even made some dude resign so he could get it. But it didn't work out cause everybody protested, calling him nepotist and all.
    So, my government's fascist too.

Yeah, i only compared Obama's administration with my own state government because they have been in power for roughly the same amount of time.

And in that time Obama has failed to do what he said he would, and my government has declared it's support for Fascist policy openly and implemented numerous pieces of legislation which indicate a future police state.

I did write to a couple of local MP's about the Cannabis laws, but of course, it won't do anything.

The opposition here supports all these policies, so there is pretty much nothing that can be done.

A riot would be a good idea, but i'll be honest here, i don't think i'd fair well in jail, despite all that i've learned from hip hop about beating some faggit down on your first day in the pen and making some other faggit your bitch before they do it to you.

It’s pretty bad down here in London too, the authority of the police is unquestioned, some people try and argue and complain about there civil liberties being violated but it just falls on deaf ears, not to mention that London is the most watched city in the world.

Were tracked by cameras, credit cards and even the card we use for transport, its called a oyster card, it’s a tracker that you buzz in when your reach your destination, your time of arrival, route, destination and beginning location are all stored on the system.

The G20 protests showed what state the city had come too, the police used brutal, relentless tactics to subdue and control the crowds, it was a game of cat and mouse only more ruthless.

At the end of the day where living in a capitalist corporate society, that’s only goal is profit and how to accumulate it, they make money off everything and resort to any means to make you buy a product, the personal freedoms and morals of the public go unnoticed.

It’s fascism in disguise. But I think every organized, centralized government is fascist to a certain degree, especially in this day and age.

ha, that's probably almost literally the first time i've eve misused "You're" and you're right there to pick me up on it.

Second, thanks for pointing out the obvious, even though others have already pointed it out.

The amount of CCTV in London is crazy from an outside perspective, i can't really even fathom what it would be like to have a camera on every corner of major cities here.

They've introduce something similar to the Oyster card here also, and have been seriously considering a personal ID card for everyone for some time.

And i guess you're right, aspects of Fascism creep into democracy inadvertently or by other means.

It's just that the government here says they admire Fascism, and nobody really cares about it.

"When it comes to the crunch, people prefer to be safe than to have freedom"

A quote from a state government minister here, defending his Hitler praise.

    Fucking scumbag.

What is it that makes the Australians so conservative?

Well, at a federal level what would be considered the Left Wing party was elected last year (their political beliefs are still essentially right wing though).

So as a whole, i guess Australian's aren't that conservative.

Western Australia for some reason is predominantly right wing though, i'm not really sure why.

There is a fairly large farming population.

Additionally, there are a lot of first and second generation white immigrants here from places like South Africa and Zimbabwe.

They're pretty much all middle or upper class, extremely rascist and extremely conservative.

Also, prior to the Global Financial Crisis, they was a huge mining boom here, and rich people are usually conservative people.
