Yeah the first song that popped up in my head was the Beans track...lol @ you can smell the prison food LOL
Only a few years ago Hip Hop purists may have felt superior listening to hard core while their less enlightened companions snacked on commercial rap. As Shaolin research began to point out the overwhelming benefits of raw production, true hip hop enthusiasts started turning back to traditional styles. Wu-Tang in particular, has been shown to myriad beneficial effects, from warding off ignorance and poverty to reducing the risk of incarceration and death.

I don't know much about jail beside what I hear in hip hop and from movies like Ricochet, Tango & Cash, The Last Boyscout, Malcolm X. Those are some dope songs angry!, some good music has come from the lockdown experience.

P.E.s Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos was one of the first hip hop videos I ever saw, my father still has the world premire of it from MTV on VHS. The video is as visual & cinematic as the song, featuring Stet, EPMD, Audio Two, Eric B and more golden era artists.

Premonitions Of A Black Prisoner, a chilling story about commiting suicide in jail by K-Solo, The Fugutive.

Who Killed Jane by EPMD from their 1992 classic, PMD gets locked up in the song.

^crazy how those last 3 songs all use the same drum sample!

and its songs like this that give bone thugs that tight connection with their fans. they make songs for the people like this to reach out which seperates them from other acts only concerned with talking about themselves. just like Pac did it!

and bizzy spazzes out on this shit. he talks about prison alot in his rhymes, bizzy comes from all angles with pure expression which is why so many people get lost in the niggas music because he speaks from the heart, about shit that real people can relate to

    (this is the remix)

Not really a full jail track but still ill imagery on this part -

    On Doomsday!
Ever since the womb ‘til I'm back where my brother went
That's what my tomb will say
Right above my government, Doom will lay
Either unmarked or engraved, hey, who's to say?
    I wrote this one in B.C. D.C. O-section
If you don't believe me, go get bagged and check then
Cell number 17, up under the top bunk
I say this not to be mean, wish bad luck or pop junk
Pop the trunk on See-Cipher-Punk, leave him left scraped
God forbid, if there ain't no escape, blame MF tape
Definition "super-villain": a killer who love children
One who is well-skilled in destruction, as well as building
While Sidney Sheldon teaches the trife to be trifer
I'm trading science fiction with my man the live lifer
A pied piper holler a rhyme, a dollar and a dime
Do his thing, ring around the white collar crime
Get out my face, askin' ‘bout my case, need toothpaste
Fresher mint, monkey-style nigga get [?dentadent?]
And dope fiends still in they teens, shook niggas turn witness
Real mens mind their own business
    That's the difference between sissy-pissy rappers that's double-dutch
How come I hold the microphone double-clutch
C.O.'s make rounds, never have ‘ox found
On shakedown, lock-down, wet dreams of Fox' Brown
    On Doomsday!

in the early 90s there was a scared straight program type rap group called the lifers group made out of all inmates doing real time. they put out an e.p. & an album. rahway state prison in jersey was the location.

    from wiki:
The prison served as the filming location for the 1978 Academy Award winning documentary Scared Straight! The prison is also the birthplace of the Lifers' Group, in which prison inmates participate in a government-sponsored rap music program, recording such songs as "The Real Deal" and "Belly of the Beast" to discourage children from becoming criminals.

shit was as real as prison rap can get.

also there was a group on rap-a-lot in 'bout 91 or 92 called the convicts. big mike and 3-2 were the members and that whole album is on some criminal/jail house shit. big mike took willie dees place in the geto boys when he quit for an album or 2.

mf grimm made a damn album while he was locked down. they snuck a beat machine in there for him and everything. digital tears: e-mail from purgatory is the album he made while he was locked up, i think. x- raided just got busted for making his albums in prison.

and you cant leave out slick rick's behind bars. that was some real ass shit from a hip hop great.

Can't believe no one has mentioned "Up North Trip" by Mobb Deep and "Edge of Sanity" by G Rap.

don't forget Freddie Foxxx made an entire album dedicated to the prison poulation back in '94, "Crazy Like A Foxxx" - DOPE ISH!

Tragedy Khadafi, who spent alot of his life in jail (and is incarcerated at the moment), spazzed one of the realest songs ever recorded.
