Jay-Z takes this hands down, nobody is even touching him impact wise OR skill wise; three definite classics (Blueprint, Black Album, American Gangster) and a host of other bangers he rolled out definitley puts him as number one.

Eminem comes in at second just for his impact alone, and of course for all the dope music he put out 2000-2003 and Recovery.

I'm gonna put Ghost as third for his consistency.

Sure he got a good catalog but lyrically he can not match rappers like One Be Lo. He said it himself:

"I dumbed down for my audience and doubled my dollas.
They criticize me for it, but yet they all yell 'holla'.
If skills sold, truth be told
I'd probably be, lyrically, Talib Kweli.
Truthfully, I wanna rhyme like Common Sense,
But I did 5 mil, I ain't been rhymin' like Common since.""
At the end of the day, it's about the music. When I listen to hip hop, lyrics are of 15% importance to me, the rest is solely in the music. Remember, any idiot can make words rhyme.

Right now for me it's a toss up between Doom, Ghost, Em and Jay-Z as far as consistency and impact.

But this thread is all about lyricism. Read the title "Who do you think is the most gifted lyricly ??".

Black Tought should be here btw. My favorite after One Be Lo and Eminem.

It's fucking laughable Canibus, Ghostface, RA The Rugged Man and KILLAH FUCKING PRIEST have more votes than him. Ask anyone who Em is and they'll know, go ask them who killah Priest is
i see what your saying but i think the thread title was misleading - it was a bastard to think of a good short title.

see the top of the poll "View Poll Results: Who do you think is the most gifted lyricly ??"

he basically became the undisputed emperor of hip hop this past decade, and he dropped some great albums

    the blueprint
    american gangster
    the black album
the blueprint 3 (but i seem to be the only one that loves that album!)
nas aint on this poll because he wasn't voted in in the pre poll thread where you could nominate. sorry brah. and this is a corp voted poll its who we all think is the best - you have your views about jay-z, maybe its a personal perspective - i know no one who puts him in the godly catalog for rhyming

^co-sign. fucked up by not having luda on the poll. he was running the first 5 years of the decade. still had good material in the second half but it wasnt as strong as his first 5 year run.

luda is good...... yet his music (& flow) is more of a party mode, its realy not hard, hooks left right and center - his material gets a laugh but when do you hear a luda bar and go "holy shit - did he just say that ?"

you look at people like bus and tech, ghost or priest and you know they are smart people and are masters of their craft. i like luda dont put it past me, i have most OF HIS CD'S, imagine that - but as a lyrical KING i would say tha majority of this forum would not hold him in the likes of even M&M

^that's your opinion. me personally i believe luda is up there with the best. just cause he raps about partying doesnt mean he cant be intricate about it. he's always been clever. if you don't consider luda to be a lyrical king then you can't say redman is a lyrical king because they're one in the same. luda is the redman of the south. alot of weed talk, sex talk and shit talking.
