The thread title is misleading because the poll isn't the same. If your real intention of the thread was "who is the most gifted lyrically" then you should've changed the thread title. Hence the arguing in the thread. No matter how good RA the Rugged Man is he did not own the first decade of this millennia.
Voted R.A. only for his Uncommon Valor verse
What merits a good lyricist? Just the words? Emotional content included?
If I was to read to Eminem's lyrics, he isn't the best but listening to him, his ability to convey his emotion and intensity is just rare nowadays. It's like you feel the hate or sadness or anger when he starts rhyming and then his lyrics seem genius. White America and Going Through Changes are examples of this.
"My lyrical content contains subject matter
That sucks up all these fucked up young kids
At an alarming rate; common denominate
Add it up and you'll see just why I dominate
I try to stimulate but kids emulate,
And mimmick every move you make - "Slim, you great!"
But wait, can't you see I'm only here to entertain?
I gotta be the one to go against the grain
Cause man, I see it, feel it, live it, but it's inhumane
For me to see you be influenced but pretend you ain't
But they don't understand that I've been through pain
If you get to know me I could be a friend you gain
But you can't just stand there and try to judge
It hurts but you're jealousy probably tears you up inside as much
And it's such a pleasure, every button that I touch
I treasure every glutton that I punish in my lust, but..."
Eminem is not just a dope lyricist he is actually trying to say something as well. Apart from other rappers who is just rapping smart stuff about rubbish.
Why isn't Nas on this list? He dropped Stillmatic, Lost Tapes & Gods Son alll great albums.
I have to say that Em was one of the first rappers I ever listend to as a child. He encouraged me to get started bc he talked openly about overcoming his mother drug abuse.
But hands down Killah Priest lyrics is way deepr!
