i think cuban linx is actually better than illmatic. i never used to think that, but on balance cuban linx is much more complex and fresh lyrically and has more imaginative production.
plus its like a whole production, you have to listen to the whole album rather than just select tracks. not that you wouldn't with 'illmatic', but its not necessary with that album like it is with cuban linx.
The thing about Ironman, Linx and LS that separates them from other peoiple's solo albums is that they were almost like clan albums with all the features. All of em have songs that don't even feature the main artist.
