Buddha Monk and Mickey Hess present The Dirty Version On Stage, in the Studio, and in the Streets with Ol’ Dirty Bastard In conversation with Shawn Setaro
Founding Wu-Tang Clan member Ol’ Dirty Bastard, who died in 2004 at age 35, is legendary for both his tremendous talent and his wild offstage antics. The story behind the legend is told in The Dirty Version, by Brooklyn Zu member and Wu-Tang affiliate Buddha Monk, Dirty’s right-hand man on stage and in the studio. A close friend since childhood, Buddha witnessed Dirty’s trials and triumphs, from being harassed by cops in Bed-Stuy (where an ODB mural now stands), to touring the world at the height of his fame, to going on the run after escaping from rehab. Along with his co-author Mickey Hess, Buddha tells the true stories behind the Wu-Tang icon at Restoration Plaza, in the neighborhood where he started out. Buddha and Mickey will be interviewed by hip-hop writer and interviewer Shawn Setaro of The Cipher and Rap Genius. Co-presented by Greenlight Bookstore. Reception and book signing to follow.Free and open to the public. Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation is located at 1368 Fulton Street (at Marcy Avenue) in Brooklyn.
