1 - Nasty nas to esco, to escobar, now he is Nastradamus!
Illmatic is the only album of his i like LOL. I like some songs on It Was Written, Iam, Nastradamus, Stillmatic. I was very disappointed in The Firm album considering Nas, AZ, Foxy Brown, Nature are good rappers. Sucks that Cormega wasn't on The Firm album because he's good.
Fair enough. You didn't like "The Lost Tapes" or "God's Son" though?
I've never heard The Lost Tapes. I didn't like God's Son but Made You Look song is hard. I like at the end of the song when he's rapping without the beat.
This is classic in my eyes
^What's your top 3 Nas albums?
4.5 outta 5.
Excellent album. Not gonna say it's perfect. But a great listen nonetheless. Probably Nas' 2nd or 3rd best album.
One Mic, Your Da Man, Ether, Every Ghetto. Stand out tracks.
Coulda done without Braveheart Party but at least he took it off. My Country was alright. Would have been perfect if he added Purple in place of Smokin, and Doo Rags in place of My Country.
Woulda been flawless. But it's still great nonetheless.
Which song ya'll think is better between Ether and Jay-Z's The Takeover? I'm gonna say Ether. Nas made Jay-Z look really bad hahahahahahahaha. Nas is a better rapper than him and I could care less that Jay-Z has sold more albums than him.
Ether for me.
Harder diss and sharper rhymes. There's a myth going around that Ether wasn't "factual" and it's BS. There was plenty of truth there.
Takeover was a really good record. But it was just outdone by a better one. Jay-Z was never quite the same afterwards.
I agree. I'm disappointed in DJ Premier when he talked about Ether and The Takeover on Vlad tv. He said he remembers when he first heard The Takeover at the club and the people went wild. So what LOL. He said he thinks The Takeover is better and I said he can't be serious LOL. He's produced several Nas songs and I can't believe he said that. I know he's produced some Jay-Z songs but DJ Premier should know that Nas is a better rapper than Jay-Z. DJ Premier seems like the type of guy that likes lyrical rappers because he hooked up with Guru and he's produced lots of songs for lyrical rappers. Jay-Z isn't lyrical. He's alright but he's done way too many mainstream songs and Nas is a harder rapper than him.
Jay-Z WAS dope. From 96 through 97. Then he stopped giving a fuck. But in general, Nas is just a better all around emcee and artist, IMO.
Prior to the battle with Nas, Jay had really become overrated. Similar to how Lil Wayne got overrated only that was worse.
Probably the most overrated hip hop album going around, God's Son was so much better. Takeover was better than Ether too, the third verse is the Nas diss and was better than Nas' disses which was just calling Jay a faggot.

Quoting ≠ Agreement.
The Ether beat is horrible, plus his disses seem weak compared to Jays. And Jay only did one verse compared to three.
Sometimes my opinion changes but my original review of Stillmatic is still how I feel. Some amazing songs but also some pretty horrible ones. It seems the standard pattern for Nas from 'I Am' onwards though. 'Life Is Good' was quite consistent though. Thats the key, just hiring a few talented producers to oversee and make sure nothing like 'Braveheart Party' slips through the net.
