Good movie! Unfortunately, I have never seen the Lord of the Rings.

hahahaha
i guess if you want to be chronologically correct then that's the way to do it, hobbit first.
but damn, what nerdy niekro hasn't seen the lord of the rings
I haven't saw any of the lord of the rings films either, just couldn't get into them. I just found them boring and far too long. It was the same when I tried to read the book when I was a kid! I loved the hobbit book but then when I tried to read lord of the rings it was just too much lol! Might check this film out though
I enjoyed it, would be easy to hate on it as it's like Peter Jackson has done everything in his power to make this feel like it's set in the Lord of the Rings universe to the point where u sometimes feel like you're watching one long outtake from the LOTR films
I have to say though, the effects are outstanding, to the point where the line between CGI and reality is completely untraceable. And I hate 3D movies with a passion but this was definitely worth seeing in 3D as the whole film is in 3D and not just certain scenes.
It will be a feat if this level of quality is pulled off over 3 films again but we'll see...

movie was too schizophrenic. sometimes it was dark, to be a lord of the rings prewuel, but sometimes it was light and slapstick, more like the tone of the book, it made things uneven. also the battles were too jokey, didnt have any suspense, and a lot of time i could almost hear buttons being pressed it looked so video game like. the bilbo actor was good though and a lot of the camera work was nice. preetty average movie all factors considered.

I loved it. I went in with low expectations because I was expecting a more goofier lighthearted story like the book but I thought they got the balance just right. The only thing I didn't like as much was that the orcs were all fully cgi, it was more of a mild annoyance because I liked the make up fx in the original trilogy but the cgi was top quality. One thing I really liked as well was that we got more of a history on the dwarves which I felt were a bit under represented in the original films.

it was ok. nothing that special. couldve been done better. the movie had barely any climax. its a fun to movie watch at the cinema with friends but not something thatll stick in my mind.

i thought it was okay, entertaining stoner movie. i couldn't stand lord of the rings. I think this i didn't have the pressure of knowing that i'm supposed to like it.
